By decanator 1191347721 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThanks a ton because I was hearing ALL of these noises so I had backed up my hard drive then about a month later I had to get a new hard drive because my other one failed. That proves my point its very helpful to recognize the noises of your hard drive.
By Trodder 1186040469 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removedude thanks a lot!!! these things are good to know! I love u kipkay =D
By Wolfenheart 1182207425 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThe best way to burn out hard drives is with file sharing. To be safe file sharing should be done on a non system drive. Also it is important that drives have adequate cooling. If you do a lot of file sharing you may want to look into setting up raid 0 for your file sharing. I learned the hard way and went through a couple of hard drives in a year.
By vidar808 1165184068 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveDo you honestly believe that file sharing causes more strenuous usage patterns than normal daily operation? Don't answer that; it was a rhetorical question. And FYI, RAID0 would be useless for file sharing, since even the slowest modern hard drive is several times the speed of the fastest residential Internet connection. Also, by nature RAID0 increases risk of data loss, so it's rarely warranted. You were right about heat being a concern, though. Well done.
By Korrd 1185691485 Reply Spam [+3] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveHad a western digital and it would do a big Cluck sound once in awhile then one day it just totally died and lost all my pictures and mp3's and stuff. Now have a 250 external hd i hear any weird sounds i start backup stuff.
By Darkk 1165182197 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI heard these sounds too many times. Each time it was too late, users have to delay too long to call repairer
By tototititutu 1165176275 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveHey KipKay, U still use those good old SATA drives. But do warn users about regular spinning sounds, improper mounting and cilcking sounds(2.5"). U forgot toshiba, hitachi n so many!!!!
By ShyamS 1165165596 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removeseagate, samsung, ibm, maxtor(i have a 164gb maxtor),samsung, fujitsu, hitachi
By tr-derin 1216586036 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Remove... perform a periodical backup of your more valuable informations, before it's too late.
By bacalhau_cnatas 1165163206 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveYour OS will let you know soon enough if your hard drive is going to fail. Usually a read or write failure. If you have S.M.A.R.T. enabled drives, you will know immediately during power on boot if a drive is failing.
And yes, I can actually spell complicated words, unlike a lot of comments on MetaCafe.
i find my OS NEVER lets me know soon enough if my hd is going to fail. on the good side...my OS ALWAYS lets me know after my hd has failed.
By plonkobonk 1177670443 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveGood advice but just don't buy these harddrives....
