You only see people with guns stand that close to their victim in the movies. That instructor can be Bruce Lee's grandmaster but would still get popped from fifteen feet away in rear life.
By sunnee 1165489504 Reply Spam [+3] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveHave you ever been kidnapping? well for sure this guys won't come showing theirs weapons 15 feet away.Ther is a rule and a begining, the most you know the more you ready...it is basic.
But imagen a real situation you and a gun in your head...even you having the experience Im asure you that your's legs are gona shake...lets star traning and pray for never been in that situation....
you make a good point put in a situation were your in a physical struggle and the attacker pulls a gun the techniques shown here would be effective. As an amature it might be diffucult to perform under the anxiety of panic but with years of practice the physics become a reactive instinct. In the event I would still suggest cooperation and no heroics but if you have to act the techniques in the video can save your life.
By heywhatsup65 1203107715 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveAnd you can also get hit by a truck walking down the street... so what?
Martial art is about preparedness and awareness. While you are absolutely right that if someone stand 15 feet away with a gun or a bazooka, you are f**ked. But that's not the point. If the attacker is close (i.e. coming close to take your wallet...) then you have a better chance of escaping if you wish to disarm that person. Of course, then comes the question should we even ATTEMPT to disarm that person and risk our lives?
Heck, odds are, you'll never get approached by a bad guy wielding a gun and it's just a waste of time being aware of these techniques. Just like how you might never ever get in a car accident. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't wear a seat-belt just in case...
My .02.
Good ish!
Whats with all the philosophy? You missed my point. If what you say is true then why is it that no one is spending thousands of dollars a year and three hours a day practicing putting on seatbelts or walking down the street? My point is that most street shootings are unexpected and are from a distance. Cops train to disarm assailants but when a weapon is drawn their instict is to keep their distance and start shooting. I am not putting down the instructor in this video but who do you know in real life that has actually disarm someone on the streets pointing a gun at then? I love martial arts and even trained a bit when I was younger but sorry, still think my index finger is faster then any martial arts expert with 20 years of training.
By sunnee 1165557907 Reply Spam [+1] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveCorrect me if I am wrong, my interpretation of your statement is that you were putting down this video making claim that "You only see people with guns stand that close to their victim in the movies". Therefore, that discredits this video and all the techniques that may be taught through this video.
Perhaps you missed my point. A martial artist may go through his/her entire life without having to use any of his/her skills. That should not stop him/her from preparing for the worst. A woman may go through her entire life without being attacked by a rapist, that does not mean she should not prepare for her worst. You may go through your entire life without getting in a car accident, that does not mean you should not buckle your seatbelt.
The point is, you should not discredit an action due to your thinking the "odds" of something happening is slim.
If he waited till he has someone point a gun at him and THEN trained to help him in a situation like that, don't you think that'd be a bit too late? That's like your saying a woman should learn self-defense AFTER getting attacked or else she's just silly for learning self-defense.
the firearm is not a close range weapon. First clue is the bullets inside.
Only in movies and idiot thugs that imitate movies use firearms in such a manner.
People at the shooting range shoot at targets 10 feet away. Not 2 feet. The only close range training I have seen is for people who are under attack and must shoot while under extreme duress and panic. This is because while being attacked most people actually panic and miss at 3 feet. So to be holding a hand gun and stand that close, sorry, movie or idiot only.
If I drew a gun and said freeze and the guy standing 15 feet away breaths hard. He would need a new kneecap. This is just me but I assume most people holding a gun at someone would do the same. Only in movies do see distances like in this video.
You are not wrong. I wish I had 1/100th the skill of this master. I truely admire him but even at 2 feet, my twitching index finder would put his noodle on the sidewalk.
Most people are not marksmen, and get pretty close to make a shot. The best defense against a gun is another gun. If someone wants you dead, and has a gun when you don't; then you'll probably be dead. However, if someone wants your wallet, and gets in close then the martial art techniques come into play.
By odessaboy 1201400173 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveYour lesson on "close range weapon" and bullets were great and all. So what?
I mean, would you rather see a video where the victim just pisses all over himself right before having "his noodle" put on the sidewalk?
but it was more fun to see someone actually "pissed all over himself" over my stupid comment.
By sunnee 1165653976 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveMy friend's martial arts instructor broke a guys arm in 4 places disarming him. Yeah, if a smart guy has a gun, you can't disarm it, but get too far away with a pistol and you can't hit a moving target either.

By Some Old Guy 1191819279 Reply Spam [-1] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removei live in a pretty rural area in connecticut, most of the towns don't have a resident trooper let alone their own police forces. most of the state troopers ride one to a car, and its a fairly large county to patrol, most of the time you only get one cop as a first responder to a stuation. so he's cuffing someone and they manage to grab his gun out of the holster. how's he going to back off and start shooting? quickly unlock the trunk and get the shotgun out?
By cowsfeelchicken 1247746876 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Remove... and honestly, all I could do was comply. The guy had either a cheap spraypainted replica or a very old short barreled revolver. I couldn't tell. I'm not into firearms and I've never been in a situation like that.
In any case, a guy with a gun from about ten feet made off with my wallet, my keys, and my cellphone. I guess I'm lucky I made off with my hat and my life!
In any case, some training would have at least kept me calm in that situation so that if he did try to fire on me I could have figured out what to do next.
I dunno. I guess I'm in that phase afterward where I'm asking, "What if I could have done something?"
