In my PC I can choose what pressing the power button does, in the same window kipkay uses to check if hibernation is enabled. I can set my power button to hibernate, log out, restart, or even shut the computer down properly. It might be available in your PC too. ;)

While trying tis tip out I discovered something cool. If you hold down the three keys at the same time instead hitting each key a feature pops up which is called Microsoft Narrator. It allows users with low vision to use computers. It talks to you and tells you what you need to do to operate the computer. Try it out. Just press all three keys at once.

you can set your CPU to shut down hybernate or stand by pushing the power button. that is the way I do it. One button push is faster than three key stokes.....oh yeah...I like that wallpaper also

Going into hibernation is NOT the same as shutting your computer down. The computer is still running, really.

Using hibernation does shut down the computer. It takes what is currently in the memory and stores it on the hard drive. When the computer boots up next it simply takes the hard drive stored memory and reapplies it to your ram. Try it sometime. Hibernate your computer, unplug it, plug it back in, then boot up again... everything will be the same.

if you have many things that were running and go into hibernate startup takes a really long time, its easier just to do standby if you're really in a hurry to leave and startup the computer again
