This is actually called a Lotus Fold, I've worked in many high end restaurants where we needed to learn like 30 of these folds for weddings, etc.. They do make home dinners and gatherings a little more fun. If anyone wants to know more I can post a few..

I am doing a performance of the 'Odyssey' at college which we have devised ourselves & we have been sorting music & props for it. The show is next tuesday & I was put in charge of making origami lotus flowers for the lotus eaters scene & Circe's palace. ...for you first comment. Hmm for examople you can make the flower in 2 colors. After finishing, put a glass of an exotic cocktail in the middle of a flower so the whole thing looks much prettier. You can decorate the table too or put some sweets or stuff in the middle of the flower.
Or you simply can show the technique on your party to impress the guests. Believe me it really works.
