    I cannot seem to grasp this "simple" tutorial. I have tried to do this with my iPod nana, but to no avail. I think I am lost somewhere here but really want to add this to my 2 iPod's.     • its always handy to goto www.rockbox.org...

      for the themes:
      1.goto this site : http://www.rockbox-themes.org/
      2.click on your ipod model...
      3.click on the theme that you like and the download should begin
      4.after the download finishes open the theme file and install it anywhere e.g. desktop
      5.after that open the folder and you should see folders like "backdrops", "fonts" right?. the same folder names are also in your ipod in drive.X:\>.rockbox\
      6.just copy the folders and paste them on your ipod root\\rockbox folder....and if it askes you "do you want to overwrite" and click yes....and thats it
      7.now just search on your rockbox (in your ipod) for the new theme....it should be in browse\themes

      not sure what your are trying to say...but i think...u use another download software which automatically downloads files but you get an error when you download this rockbox file is it?....if so....then goto this another site

      and somewhere in the middle do u see "download now"?..right click it and then click on "save target as..." i think it should download it with the default downloader....

      currently rockbox doesnt support video with sound....only m2v videos...so u need to convert video files to m2v....
      but dont worry....rockbox doesnt replaces your original ipod, you can use your original ipod software anytime, so you can always choose between rockbox and the original ipod anytime....and you can do this from your ipod buttons ....
      as for the control funtions..there are lots...i mean...for the games it is different, for the menu its different , for the mp3 player its different....so just look around....

    i already follow the step how to have cool images, game and backround to my ipod but when i finish install the rockbox, my ipod didn't restart and did'nt take mo to rock box, and then i checked my devices inside of my ipod and the rockbox was inside of it..... what should i do? pls help.........

      no, installing rockbox in your ipod doenst delete your ipod, but its better to keep a backup files of your music incase there is misunderstanding in following this tutorial.
      just comment me your problem if you have any installing this software.

      sry for my bad english.. i already got the link that u gave me and i got pass the part that it said "ipod has not been found" everything thing is goin fine but when the download is almost finish and it saids "now downloading and installing latest rockbox daily build. make sure your connected to the internet before continuing." when i clickd ok..its tryin to connect and then it said " download fail: file not found (404) aborting." im really sry to trouble you but i really appriciate your help..thank u = )

      turn your ipod to diskmode ..if your not sure how to ...then read the documentation that came along with the rix.exe file....
      when you see the "tick" mark on your ipod screen connect it to ur computer...
      and
      while installing the rix.exe file...chooose:

      "rockbox using loader2" in the above

      and tick on "install latest rockbox daily build....
      ...
      write back if you are having problem again...

    hey i followed the rockbox-ipod nano-20070111.pdf help file from rockbox.org ... i backed up the bootpartition.bim ( 80 mb, i`ve got an ipod nano 1st gen) , i installed the bootloader ... reset my ipod.. and when it restarted... rockbox error -1 ... loading original firmware... any ideea where i went wrong? plz help me.. thnx

      the tutorial from this video and the tutorial from the rockbox site are totally different.....for a new users who dont know much about rockbox i recommend you to follow the instructions from this video...
      if you have installed by following instructions form the official site than im afraid i dont know the problem....

      dead meaning?
      try rebooting your ipod....to reboot press and hold the menu and centre button for a while till the ipod restarts.
      write back if you have any problem....and also tell me ....what do you mean by dead screen?

      this software works with all ipod except the shuffle, 2 g (generation) nano and the new 5.5 g ipod...
      so....your ipod will definately work if you follow the tutorial correctly....
      note: but if your installing this software from the official site than there is different process for all the models....

    ok so i downloaded the rockbox and i was installing everything, first it said that there was no disk in the drive so i kept hitting continue so it went on with installing then it asked me

    "Do you have ipodlinux (loader1 only) installed and a firmware extract ready? Press cancel if you have Loader2 installed, and next time select 'rockbox build only' install option.

    so i hit no ( ive tried hitting yes to and i would have to select the file again )and it would go onto installing again then right at the end the download failed , it was a 404 error appearantly

    whats wrong , im very anxious to put this on my pod

  • Hey ritesh rai 41... I need help...

    OK, when I tried to install the "RIX.exe" software, a window appeared on my screen and asked me: Do you have iPodLinux (Loader1 only) installed and a firmware extract ready?
    and also said: Press cancel if you have Loader2 installed, and next time select 'Rockbox Build Only' installed option... and then the three options to choose are:
    "yes", "no", and "cancel"; if I choose cancel, it aborts the installation process, if I choose yes it appear another window and it asks me to select my firmware extract.
    I dont know what a Loader1 or Loader2 is, and even worse I dont know what a fimware extract is... Can you help me, pls?

      you should see this in the documentation file that you donwlaoded along with the rix.exe file ... if you still didnt understand what to do ... then read the following instructions :
      connect your ipod to the pc
      open rix.exe
      and when you come to the page where you need to choose components (see the title of the installer) ...then try choosing


      "rockbox using loader2" in the above

      and tick on "install latest rockbox daily build....


      and tell me what happens....

      for the games: google (you can only add doom and pacman..other games are already installed which can be found in "browse plugins" menu)

  • Problems installing software

    Everything in the setup was installing fine until the very end when it said:
    "Now downloading and installing latest Rockbox daily build. Make sure you are connected to the internet before continuing."

    Then it says "Download failed: File Not found (404) Aborting..."

    Therefore I could not finish intalling. Help pls...

    ok i got my ipod and held select and menu then held select and play/pause it turned it on disk mode and siad ok to disconnect ..... then when i connected it to the computer it says do not disk connect i run the RIX eve. file then rockbox using loader to and install rockbox daily build and clicked install and it still said ipod can not be found now aborting ....... what am i doing wrong

    help me please i have been trying to get this for a while it would be easyer for step by step instru. as a video not a bunch of words

      "rockbox using loader2" in the above

      and tick on "install latest rockbox daily build....

      and when the installation finishes...then you can disconnect the ipod....thats it

    it says right after you should be connected to the internet on the download that file not found (404) and then it aborts the download. what can i do to fix this problem

    how do i open my ipod with explorer?when i try to install rockbox it says ipod cannot be found please connect ipod.aborting. and my ipod says cant find rockbox.what do i do?

      make sure you turn on your ipod in disk mode...if your not sure how to...then read the documentation that you downloaded along with the rix.exe file....

      and
      after that..run the rix.exe file ...and and while installing the rix.exe file....choose :

      "rockbox using loader2" in the above

      and tick on "install latest rockbox daily build....

      and when the installation finishes...then you can disconnect the ipod....thats it

    hi, i tried to put rockbox on my 30gig ipod video and i cant figure it out.i downloaded the patcher and the bootloader but when i try to install the program it says "ipod has not been found. Please connect it to the computer. Now aborting" i was gunna try to start from scratch so i deleted all the programs and it is still on my ipod and it still wont work after trying it a few times..... my Aim is Racerx12890 thanks.

      this video teaches a much more easier method of installing the same rockbox....you just need to run the Rix.exe file and thats it....all the rest will be done automatically.....

    i broke my ipod.....i uninstalled rockbox becuase i want to see if the original has my songs, but after i uninstalled it, my ipod said rockbox error then went to the original...then i tried to add songs in it using itunes but it wouldnt work enmore, i tried restoring it but its still the same....in the beginning it says rockbox error then it goes to the original but it doesnt hav a song or photos....im jus really sad right now, i think i broke it

      dont worry if your ipod has been damaged....mine also happened that....but u can again redo it...or you can permanently remove rockbox and all that will remain is your original ipod software (firmware)

      i cant tell u everbit...but...for the games...look around for "browse plugins" ...
      if u dont see the music files ...then u must change the "show files"... for the doom and the pacman ...u need the wad files...which can be found on the official site or google it....rockbox automatically installs only the default theme...for the cool themes...goto rockbox site and look around....
