A 1960s coldwar supersonic strategic nuclear bomber, and holder of the record for the largest Experimental plane. It could fly at Mach 3.08 and achieve an altitude of 74,000 ft using it's 6 engines. When using the experimental fuel ethyl borane, one engine alone made more noise than any air-breathing engine in history.

One fast airplane

- The North American XB-70 Valkyrie
  I have a lot of footage of the Valkyrie. It was a great plane for it's time, even thought they couldn't even keep the paint on it.
  
  Another major reason for the cancellation of the XB-70 project was due to the advancement of Soviet anti-aircraft missiles, which it was then vulnerable to Soviet AA fire.

aerospace failures
nice to see some video remains of this plane unfortunatly she was beaten by cost over runs and was to advanced for the flight systems of the time remember she was built many years before digital tecnology your home pc has more computing power than is in her entire flight and weapons contol systems .also one was lost in a mid air accident when one of its chase planes hit one of the tail fins hepling to kill of the program .

  The chase plane was an X-15 (another experimental rocket wih wings) piloted by Joseph Walker.

  The x-15 was a rocket plane which was launched from a pod beneath the wing of a B-52 and flew to speeds in excess of mach 6. The XB-70 that crashed was struck by a F-104. You did have the pilot's name correct though.
