The Battle of Iwo Jima was fought during February and March of 1945, during the Pacific Campaign of World War II. As a result of the battle, the United States gained control of the island of Iwo Jima, and the airfields located there. Both sides suffered heavy losses; of the 22,000 Japanese troops stationed on the island, only 1083 survived, with the US losing a total of 6,821.

    • Reccomend u watch Letters From Iwo Jima

I can't understand why you would hate Japanese soldiers from ww2. They were all ordinary people like you and me and the MAJORITY of them didn't want to go but were forced to anyway.

It's the politics who declare war but the soldiers who fight them. I was watching Letters from Iwo Jima and it really changed my opinion about the Pacific War with the Japanese.

    • im a hmong...if you know what that is...

war changes people, the japs and americans did the same things to people. ur only being told what you wanna hear and nothing more. Sorta like the Vietnam War. The media told the public that the American soldiers were either killing babies, raping women and children, or murdering the innocent for no reason, when only about a third of them actually did that.

    • i have to put these in paragraphs

They failed to mention that America was trying to free Vietnam of Communist oppression and help strengthen their country as one nation. My point is, people don't like wars so they try to find excuses to protest about them, it's pretty pathetic. Just like the War in the Middle East, americans keep protesting about how they want to stop the war when America really needs to help other countries and THEIR people too. And thats what the soldiers are trying to do.

    • probably cuz i wright a lot

I know that Japan wasn't really trying to do any of that kind of stuff, but they were scared sh*tl*ss that America would attack them and they REALLY believed they were going to, so they decided to attack Pearl Harbor. I also know that they probably shouldn't have done that but if they didn't then America might've still attacked Japan anyway. So the Japanese just wanted the first strike in order to PROTECT their country. It may sound like b*llsh*t but it's the truth and the truth may sometimes really be b*llsh*t.

  • Hey japan dude...

f**k you too. You're just sore just because we AMERICANS kicked your a$$ during WW2. Espesically since your a$$es got burned by an A-bomb. Now look, you have the right to say f^^k USA. But let me tell you something, your country will NEVER be as great as ours you little piece of sh*t. If we EVER meet, get ready to say goodbye because your a$$ is grass, and guess what b^tch, I'm the lawnmower.

    • Viperman...

That's just ignorant...you should be ashamed of yourself. Did YOU fight in WW2? Did YOU actually contribute in any way? No, it happened before you were born, it is history and outside your control. Everyone that lived through that or died during it deserves our respect...sure the Japanese as a nation were cruel, but 500, 000 ppl died when America "burned" them with the A-bomb

WWII : rest of the world vs evil germans and japanese

    • Get your facts straight

It wasn't the rest of the world vs. the Germans and the Japanese. And while we are all sinners Americans are no more evil than anyone else. You don't see them blowing up suicide bombs in crowded market places.
