    • This won't tie your laces

This is not meant to be a brilliant solution to a major issue in your life. It is just a quicker way to calculate certain calculations in your head. Some enjoy exercising their minds, some enjoy math and some calculators.

  • I have a much easier procedure !!!

Add all numbers, from 1 to N; Multiply by 2; Subtract N.

    That's it!

You don't have to multiply! (only by 2).

    Example: 4 Square:

    (1 + 2 + 3 + 4)*2 - 4
    = (10)*2 - 4 = 20 - 4
= 16, thank you, very much!

    • 'The original procedure...

Obviously, the classic algorithm is easier!

To get N square: add the first N none numbers; for example, 5 square:

      1 + 3 + 5 + 7 + 9 = 25

  • Good but

Obvious. I doesn't take long to figure something like that out. I figured out the same thing (literally) in 4th grade. On the other hand, I've only met one person who can do this stuff as well as I can.

    • Yes..

I too have always crafted tricks like this to find patterns, enjoy and excel in math. As much as any subject you need be stimulated with math as well to enjoy and be good at it.

  • errrr ?

So let me get this right, to square a number i would have to know the square of the previous number, but what if i don't know that? I would then have to work backwards to find a number i can square in my head easily and then work back up again!! .....right yeah thanks

    Calculator!

aye go on then ill admit it, its a cool trick though..i will use it in the pub to increase my status as an alpha male of the clever variety, and increase my attraction levels to the ladies thus present.
