The plant is Impatiens psittacina. It is from the Shaw States of Burma and northern Thailand. It is extremly rare in nature and not grown by collectors as it is illegal to export from either native country. You can read all about it at www.ExoticRainforest.com Find it on the plants collection page under the scientific name, Impatiens psittacina.

    • ExoticRainforest Growing instructions for the Parrot Flow... by ExoticRainforest, 1161886691 Report sent Spam Reply Thumbs Up Thumbs Down

I just had an email forwarded from a Baptist missionary in Thailand. It is a translation of the cover of a plant growing guide in Thailand and contains the growing instructions for Impatiense psittacina, "The Rare Thailand Parrot Flower". The plant gets almost 6 feet tall, has normal sized impatiens leaves and a very thick stem. The growing guide translation is now on the Exotic Rainforest site. Now all we have to do is get one!

            • ExoticRainforest It's not PhotoShop by ExoticRainforest, 1158540750 Report sent Spam Reply Thumbs Up Thumbs Down

This is certainly not PhotoShop. The plant actually exists in the Shaw States of Burma and northern Thailand. It was identified in 1901 at the Kew in Britain. The original botanical text and explanation why it is not a PhotoShop creation is at www.ExoticRainforest.com Look for the plant under the scientific anme Impatiens psittacina on the Plants Collection page. And by the way, I'm a PhotoShop trained expert.

this is something to almost make one belief in "intelligent design"

              • Cranch Intelligent Design??? by Cranch, 1131839602 Report sent Spam Reply Thumbs Up Thumbs Down

This sort of thing makes you believe in Intelligent Design, Alexbuddha? Why? Because you don´t understand that a flower can look like a bird? That´s really a great argument to give up on science altogether. There must be lots of things in your everyday-life that helps you believe in Intelligent Design... Why is the sky blue? Can the stars fall from the sky? Why do I get wet when it rains on me? All of these are great questions that science can answer for you, but if you don´t understand those answers just answer "It is God all along" (=Intelligent Design).

                • ExoticRainforest What kind of numnut? by ExoticRainforest, 1158540523 Report sent Spam Reply Thumbs Up Thumbs Down

Actually, the botanist who named it! He described it in 1901 as a "cockatoo suspended by a string from its shoulders". The name Impatiens psittacina means "parrot like". You can read all about it at www.ExoticRainforest.com Find it on the Plants collection page under the scientific name, Impatiens psittacina.
