David Blaine does a series of levitations.

In this particular one, he is lifted by a crane off camera. The girls on the pier are actresses. That is also how he gets the duplicate signature for another effect on this site.

He combines the fake with his true sleights and levitations (such as the balducci) to make a perfect performance.
