the man was careless enough to uncover a man-eating manhole. A man off screen was the owner of the manhole in question, another got in the way and they decided to have a swish fight.
alterna tively, the man was really a secret villian trying to get into his underground base, and slipped. the valiant spy then tried to attack, but got stopped by a henchman.

You certainly outdistanced us with your hypothesis, however, you too, missed the real point of the video. The man attempting to enter the sewer system, was an Oxford graduate, studying the diet of surrounding apartment dwellers. He was trying to collect stool samples to count the corn and peanuts and determine protein values. If he is hunting human stools, does that qualify him as a "Distant Hunter"?

You guys are wrong. I saw a whole documentary on TV about this video. It's said that this was a videotape that the government tried to hide. They said that it wasn't a real manhole ... in fact it was some sort of UFO (Unidentified Fucked up Object) that was trying to kidnap a man (probably to probe him) and the 2 ninjas fighting at the end weren't real. They were special holographs coming from a spaceship to distract other pedestrian.

If I'm not mistaken, that's footage from Tsjetsjenia, after the massacre in the Beslan elementary school.
People started fighting in the streets in anger over not agreeing on what to do with the government, and local russian "immigrants" attacked because they generally just love to fight...
In the elongated clip on the news a couple of years back, the guy actually returns to the manhole and picks up the manhole cover to wield against a mob rushing down from two adjoining streets.
This can't be seen in the clip, however, so it's kinda taken outta context, leaving it a bit worthless actually!
Well, there you have it!

Yes, he is a total idiot. The only thing that would have been funnier would be if he went all the way in and the cover fell back into place.
