      REALLY!! I have a cousin who actually flies supersonic jets under the ocean. They are high trained scuba divers/ pilots/ animal trainers who use dolphins for pre flight checks on thier (UWF-15Z sub surface air/sea craft). It was all a government expirement to see if walruses and dolphins could rescue a submurged pilot from 87 fathoms. I'm telling the truth because my cousin has three of those vehicles in his garage and they are working on a fourth that will be able to fly underground. It's not fake Itell you it's not fake.

      It's called super cavitation. It works by the strong nuclear atomic force of water molecules pulling itself apart. The byproduct, of course, is hydrogen and oxygen. These free H2 and O2 bubbles form on leading edges of fast moving underwater bodies. We have torpedos that can supercavitate, and are even working on submarines (which are, by the way, a long way off yet.)       Cavitation has nothing to do with atomic forces or even chemistry, just phase changes. If you put a glass of water in a vacuum, the water will boil away into vapor even at room temperature. If you can create a region of low enough pressure in the ocean, that water will vaporize as well, creating bubbles of water vapor that, as soon as they leave the low-pressure region, will collapse into liquid water again.

      You can get enough low pressure for that to happen on the front side of ship or submarine propellers when they're being driven very hard, creating high pressure behind and low pressure in front. In general it's not a good idea because it's inefficient and makes noise; instead of driving a single screw hard enough to cavitate, you add a second screw or make the single one bigger.

      Supercavitation is the same thing, except that you use a specially shaped nose cone and tremendous speed to create a single large cavity of water vapor big enough for the entire vehicle (or at least most of it) to fit in. There's very little drag, but it must move very fast (200mph or so) or the bubble collapses

      The practical problem with supercavitating weapons is that they're <i> terrifically </i> noisy; the Russian supercavitating torpedo is called the <i>Shkval</i> because of the noise it makes. So far the noise has made it impractical to mount sensors or communicators on the weapons; they have no idea where they are or where they're going, just that they're going there really fast. Until somebody solves that problem, they're essentially going to be curiosities, not threats.

      underwater is also effected by temperature, which is why sound travels faster in deeper water then surface levels. these layers, where the bottom of the thermocline meets the top of the deep isothermic layer is the best place for it. The laws of refraction dictate that sound can be channeled through here as speed decreases sound bends from the lower thermocline layer into the higher pressure isothermic layer, which speeds it back up and pushes it back into the thermocline. scattering and absorbtion occur from small particles, but low frequency sound can bypass a great deal of that. As for what was said above, i cant say how it relates to mechanics underwater, but sound can be accelerated greatly underwater, yes...

      Nuclear missile subs only fire the nuclear type missiles out of those tubes. They do have ones without warheads for testing but they can't fire any other kind of missile out of that tube.

      They have converted a few subs to fire normal cruse missiles, but part of that change was changing the tubes or silos. No us sub fires surface to air missiles right now. If plains come they dive or other ships in the battle group will take them down. Look up SSBN and SSGN. The first is nuke subs the second are the ones they converted to fire conventional war head missiles. I have friends I went to nuke school with on both those as well as fast attack subs and none of them fire anti air missiles.

      I mean how the fuck would they get a radar lock on something when they are underwater. The only way you could at all make it work is if you set it up through that system that lets ships fire of each others radar. For that to work you would need another ship within firing range of that aircraft that has that radar and system. Also you would have to equip the sub with a good antenna boy that could support the bandwidth requirements of that system communicating with the ship. So really they would have to design a whole new system for the sub to link up with the ships. Which brings me to, what would the point be since that other ship could just shoot its missiles, and save billions of dollars you would have to spend to make your system work.

      ok firstly radar locking on to a target is exactly the same way the icbms are given their target, that is periscope depth attained an antenna instead of the periscope is raised a plane(awac) or ship with very sofisicated radar capabilities send the relavant data to the sub then the missile is fired this is only relavant if the target is moving and an awac plane is tracking the target. you cant send or recieve radio messages under water it is far to dense of a meduim for the radio waves to travel in so snorkels with antenna modules are used for deep diving comunication as well as air replinshment. idont know what you mean by anti air missiles if its a missile to down an aircraft then the type of missile used in this clip would be totally useless as in comparison to a plane these are relatively slow and unmanuoverable also it would be like useing a shot gun to swat a fly. the other problem that is mentioned particularly by every one else is breaking the sound barrier under water there has been no boat on top of the water that has done this as friction problems with the water has made this problem impossible to crack. so under water friction is so much more of a problem the speeds are so much slower a good expriment to do is to fire a bullet straight down into water and see just how short it pulls up a 7.61 mm rifles bullet will pullup in about two metres after a barrel velocity of over twice the speed of sound this was done on the show mythbusters

      I am not saying this is a missile made to shoot down air craft. The retard with the 10 insightful said that is was a "uwsa(under water surface to air missile)". I said there is no such thing.
      Yes the cruse missiles they use on subs acquire a lock on their target in flight almost like the ballistic missiles. The ballistic missiles don't need a radar lock to hit a target they do most their flight off GPS.

      The way an anti air missile fires and gets its lock is a little different. Because it only flies for a few seconds so it has to get on target a quicker. Also they are smaller then a cruse missile which means you can't fire them out of the same launching device. You can’t just shoot one and let it get a lock after it has been flying for awhile. It would already be past the target. The missiles subs fire can because they are going a lot farther and their targets move a lot slower or not at all.

      My point was that their is no such thing as a "uwsa(under water surface to air missile)" and developing one would be dumb and wasteful.

      Yes is the footage is fake of a plain super imposed over a missile and that is the only thing that that 10 guy was right about.

      He was wrong that "uwsa(under water surface to air missile)" exist. He was also wrong about being able to fire other missiles from the ballistic missile tubes. That is why they had to change out the tubes to turn the SSBNs into SSGNs when they decided it would be a good idea to have subs that shoot missiles we actually use in combat. Since, we have never fired a nuclear missile at an enemy.

      Oh ya and you are wrong about subs have ICBMs (inter continental ballistic missiles). They just have ballistic missiles. The whole inter continental part means made to fire from one continent to another. Subs fire them from the ocean to a target. Their missiles have shorter range then ICBMs.

      Yes I know they float an antenna to communicate, though they don't have to come quite to snorkel depth to do it. Yes they also have ones that they need to be at snorkel depth to use. I mean if you could send radio waves though water then subs would use radar not sonar to track stuff underwater. I also know they take in air at snorkel depth though they don't really need to do that since they can make their own air, but I don’t see how that relates to anything.

      I also don't see what not going super sonic underwater has to do with my post. I don't recall saying anything about missiles going super sonic under water. The retard who said this was footage of a real plane said it could go supersonic underwater.

    As a US Navy Submariner I find this video to be pretty entertaining, and even more entertaining are the comments from some those out there that think you know what you are talking about. I am a Fire Control Technician, tracking targets and shooting weapons (torpedoes and missiles) is my bread and butter. I have been doing this for sixteen years so I know what I am talking about and just for the sake of argument I would like to address a few of the comments and state a couple of facts.
    1)Yes, this video is obviously a fake. But who cares, things like this are to make you scratch your head and/or laugh.
    2)Yes, there is a sound barrier underwater and it is about 4700 feet/sec (3,200 mph) /- 500 fps depending on salinity, and temperature, and is yet to be broken.
    3)As of yet we do not have any submarine launched surface to air missiles, submarines are designed to be stealthy, we hide from aircraft vice attacking aircraft.
    4)Mr. “weebs” was exactly right regarding cavitation and the Russian “Shkval” supercavitating torpedo. And to add to his comment, we do not have a supercavitating torpedo nor do we desire such a thing, we believe in smart weapons not fast and dumb. We will also never waste our time with a supercavitating submarine, submarines are supposed to be quiet.
    5)There are radio waves can travel through water known as VLF (10 to 30 KHz) and there are even radio waves that can travel through the earth known as “earth wave” or ELF (30 to 300Hz), the problem is that these are receive only and have a very slow data rate (10 to 75 bpm) that they are nearly useless for lengthy cryptographic communications. These frequencies are not usable for any type of underwater “radar” because they pass right through any “contact” just as they do water and earth. And again, we are trying to be sneaky, any transmission would be counter detected and give us away.
    6)On a lighter note, we call it “periscope depth” not “snorkel depth” and we snorkel to replenish our air for quality of life issues… who wants to breathe recycled farts anyway?
    7)“those F-18 will never be able to fly with all this water in the reactor...” …WTF are you talking about? F-18??? Reactor???

    At any rate, the clip was fun to watch, and “Lienad’s” comments made me laugh. I laughed even harder at all the “so called experts” trying to impress people with their mindless banter. And nearly cried at some of the statements where people were actually trying to be serious… the funniest part is that “Lienad” was poking fun at this very thing.

      Yes, we do seperate water into hydrogen and oxygen, the process is called electrolysis. For removing CO2 and carbon monoxide we use the same process that they use in the space station. most other things in the air are removed by electrostatic precipitation (like the ion breeze only bigger) the system is designed to keep the atmosphere "within limits" indefinitely. But even with all that, nothing beats the taste of fresh air.

    This video is more than just a simple fake, if it's fake at all. The amount of work involved with the compositing, animation, match moving, lighting, and color correction on this particular clip would be staggering. Even for the most accomplished VFX expert. There are several clues that make me question if it's a fake. First the plane itself, if it was a fake it would have to be built in a 3D app and composited into the sequence. To do this takes a experts knowledge of VFX and mathamatics. The plane rotates showing us it's belly. That would have to be animated in the 3D app, match moved to the missle footage and the missle itself. Then composited in using the low grade DV footage. Very tough to do. Especially when edge ringing can occur due to the low resolution of the 8bit DV image (looks more like C-VHS though, even les resolution, making it tougher to create a clean believable composite).

    I have serious doubts that this video was simply faked. If so, the VFX work is seamless. When was the last time you saw a $200 million dollar film have VFX that looked this good. Never! Not even Superman which used the very latest in VFX techniques and technology. And there is a reason for this. But it would take up several posts for everyone to understand why.

    It bugs me when people say this plane was simply superimposed over a rocket. They obviously know nothing about visual effects (VFX) with motion pictures. I suggest you try doing it, get all the 3D data correct, the particles, the color, the highlights, the compositing, the modeling, and the motion tracking. Show me what you come up with. It would take you a few years to muster up all the knowledge about the apps and VFX techniques needed to pull off such a composite.

    I have my doubts that this image was simply faked, I have to come to the conclusion that either a VFX expert did it or it's genuine. Those are the only two options.

    Jet can't take off like this. It's a test launch of SLBM or similar underwater launched missile. The superimposed plane seems to be F-15 Eagle, it has two engines and we could only see one exhaust track. In addition, jets don't make that much of exhaust, such a long "tail" only appeares behind a rocket engine, jets like the one we could see have air breathing engines. But yeah, the video looks nice!
