Michael Jordan — The Legend
There have been many great players of NBA, some whose names are heard all around the world, others who are talked about once in a blue moon, but one name that will be heard wherever you go is Michael Jordan. Michael Jordan is a worldwide name, no matter how you hear it everyone knows who is being talked about. That’s right, the greatest player to put his hands on the ball. Jordan has fans all over the world, and not only is he known for his action on the court, but he is also known for the things that he does off the court. (On TV)
Michael Jordan was born in Brooklyn, New York on March 27, 1963.He had two brothers and two sisters; there were seven people in his family. When he was a child, He was very shy and didn't like to talk to other people about himself. He was also very short. Michael did not look like a future superstar, but when he studied in middle school, he dreamed of becoming a baseball superstar one day. He was good at playing basketball, playing baseball and running. (www.crazyen.com).
Michael's road to fame began at the University of North Carolina. He brought an acrobatic style to the game that few had seen before. Michael used his quickness and strength to reach the basket again and again. He became famous for his powerful slam dunk. When he studied in North Carolina, though he would always remain true to Carolina Blue by wearing UNC practice shorts under his uniform, he was ready for a new challenge. Therefore Jordan left school after his junior year (he later graduated) to declare himself eligible for the 1984 NBA draft. (On TV)
In 1984, he was selected by the Chicago Bulls, then, he started his National Basketball Association career.
The first year with the Bulls Jordan was elected for the All-Star team and earned Rookie of the Year honors. In later years, Michael Jordan was also named to the All-NBA First Team for the first of what would become nine straight times and a dozen overall in 1986-1987. Being one of the leagues, most dynamic and dominant offensive players may be good enough for most NBA players but Jordan loved a challenge. He led the Bulls charge into the playoffs once again. In 1990, the Bulls finally got into their first NBA Finals. In the next two years the Bulls got two more rings.
Having accomplished just about everything he could as a basketball player more than once, Jordan left the game but he did not lose his competitive edge. To feed the flames, he set his sights on realizing his childhood dream of playing professional baseball while critics bemoaned his decision to sign a free agent contract with the Chicago White Sox. To the delight of Jordan’s fans, Jordan briefly returned to the basketball court. Jordan eventually left the Barons on March 2, 1995 and began showing up a the Bulls training facility a week later “I’m back” Two little words that sent the sporting world spanning when Michael Jordan used them to declare his official return to the NBA on March 18th, 1995.
It was good news to every fan, during the following four years; the bulls got three rings again. On January 13, 1999, Michael Jordan announced his retirement from basketball. Amid speculation that the championship core of the Bulls would be broken up and an impending NBA lockout, he was going to do all the usual things athletes say they’re going to do when they retire: find new challenges as a businessman and play some golf. Shortly afterwards Jordan joined the Washington Wizards as part owner and president of operations. Though he said he would never play for another team or another coach, Jordan’s love of the game became too strong for him to resist. And on September 25th, 2001, Jordan ended his retirement, agreeing to a two-year contract to play with the Washington Wizards. The greatest player in NBA history was back again.
Michael Jordan is the best basketball player in the world. Flying above the gym like a superman, Air Jordan has slam-dunked his way to superstardom (said Pat Riley). Michael, though, saved his best dunk for the end. He began by dribbling the ball to the foul line. Then, with his tongue wagging loose, he soared up to the basket. And just when it looked as though Michael was up as high as anyone could be, Air Jordan turned on the rockets in his Nikes and flew over the basket.
After Michael led the Bulls to the NBA championship, Magic just smiled and said: “Michael can do the impossible; he is the number one scariest player in the NBA.”(Said Viade Divac ) Michael also loves to spend a lot of time with children, including his own two sons, Jeffrey and Marcus. He also goes to hospitals to cheer up sick children. And one year, when he knew he was going to be away from his home on October 31, he left a not on his door for all the children in his neighbor hood. “Kid: Sorry I missed you for Halloween. If you still want trick-or –treat, come back in three days.”
“Jordan was the most influential sports figure of the 80s,He’s an era!”— Sports Illustrated. David Buckner picked Michael Jordan: "Although a strong case could be made for Bo Jackson, Michael Jordan single-handedly brought basketball to the forefront of popularity, rivaling Muhammad Ali as the most recognizable sports figure world-wide. Jordan made hundreds of millions of idolizers by changing the game of basketball and sports all around." In recreation centers all across America, young aspiring basketball players are trying desperately to "be like Mike." Mike, of course, is the great Michael Jordan of the NBA's (National Basketball Association's) Chicago Bulls. Every boy who plays basketball dreams of achieving the greatness of Jordan. Considered the greatest player who ever stepped onto a basketball court, Michael Jordan is the measuring stick for all basketball players, and at this time no one has come close to equaling his greatness. From his incredible hang time exploits on his way to the basket, to near perfect shooting in critical games, in all, Jordan has became the god of basketball in fans’ hearts. Michael Jordan is not only the greatest basketball player of all time; he is also a pretty super human being. (www.academicdb.com)
Jordan is not only the idol of the NBA players, but also is the basketball fans’ hero. Every time, he acts as the god of the game. He shot at the extreme critical time. He shot when his team needed him to do so. All the fans knew that if Michael shot his team would be rescued. The fans regard Michael as one of the greatest player of NBA, and they act as Jordan acted when they play their own games.
I love NBA because I like Michael Jordan. I like to watch his games on the TV.I think that everybody knows Jordan and his achievement. Jordan was born in a family which was not rich. However, he tried his best to gain the goals he wanted. Some people may say that it is because of his genius. In my opinion, every people could achieve what they wanted if they show their strong will at their work. For me, I would try my best to make use of my intelligence to be a successful man.
Michael Jordan was successful in the NBA, and he is successful in his business now. Consequently, he is the idol of the players and other people include me. He has great influence at his followers. Maybe we could see a Michael Jordan –like person some day.
