  • TKD is great as a dicipline

    TKD like any other art form is great for building charector and health, especially for kids.
    I hear sport TKD is different from the Millitary TKD used by the armed forces in Korea, I can only wonder how that will par.
    I hope the TKD fighter does not loose heart and develops himself further for a more complete fighting system encompessing all fighting ranges, kicks and punches range, takedowns and floor work.
    Ask 'bouncers' and self protection personel and they will tell you what really works in the street.
    I myself do boxing and ju-jitsu and that works for me on the street.

    The reality is that if you check, Shooto, Pride, K-1 or UFC,... are there ANY TKD fighters there?

    In my opinion TKD emphises to much on speed, and to little in power.... Sure,... you throw plenty of kicks,.. but they don't stop anyone... Not an experienced fighter atleast. And since the strange practice of kicking from behind is not allowed,... many TKD fighters seems to end many of their combos with their back facing their opponent,.. which is ABSURD. No one in their right mind does that in "real" fighting,...

    So I agree with previous speakers, TKD is a sport, not a martial art, nore worthy to be in MMA.

    Is a martial art. WTF is sport (bls*t). But even if this guy is ITF he's not a fighter (cant even move right, what a piece of ****)...
    If he was studying TKD in a good school (not american or something like that) he would also know what to do against the low attacks. You should see the korean fighters.

      almost every person i see believes that the western version of Tae Kwon Do really is Tae Kwon Do. Let me assure you that this is far from the truth, its much the same as comparing Tae Bo to real Tae Kwon Do. the western version of Tae Kwon Do basicly shares the name and thats it. True Tae Kwon Do is very similar to True Karate (again TRUE Karate not the bullshit western version).

      Yea it's true just because TKD spread around the world doesn't make all the same. Also, this video is kind of stupid cuz it's under muay thai rules and this TKD practioneer S**k AND the muay thai guy almost NEVER attack and only tries to counter. Wth that's lame. The tkd guy almost always have to attack first.

    I think from this video it is very clear that thai boxing is a more effective and lethal form of fighting. I used to do thai boxing myself so I know how hard the thai guy is kicking. You can see that the thai guys kicks are much stronger than the TKD guy. Yes the TKD is doing the attacking but that's only because that swhat the thai guy wanted him to do; the TKD guy walked into everything agian and again. The thai guy could have demolished him if he wanted but he didn't as it would have been taking liberties beause the TKD guy just didn't have enough weapons. I think TDK is a sport and against other TKD fighters may be worth watching but as a form of defence it's pants. I agree with the above comment that you can't say to an attacker on the street don't kick me below here, if a system is to be effective it needs to be able to help u get out of any situation and there can be no rules.

    Av gotta say I used to do thai boxing so i know how hard they thai guys kicks were. U could totally see that they were much stronger than the TKD guys. True the TKD guy was the one doin the attacking but the thai guy was clearly in control, he didn't even make the thai guy break into sweat. The thai boxer could totally have demolished the TKD guy if he'd wanted to but it would have been taking liberties as the TKD guy clearly didn't have the right weapons to fight back with.

    wow look like they put the wrong TKD guy on the ring.... TKD is a very great art to learn. TKD is mostly consist of speed, kicks, jump and a lot of hopping moving around and this guy ain't doing any of that.

    i think the tkd guy needs to spar with a thai boxer to learn what works and what doesnt. it would help him heaps cause he will learn blocks and be able to pick shots better then if he was sparring against tkd

    Why don't they put a tkd guy that knows to fight because this one obviously doesn't.I must disagree with what most of you said...tkd isn't about keeping the distance since it has punches,low kicks and knee and elbow strikes, but this guy is a disaster: low speed, weak kicks and lack of precision.I don't know how he got that belt because he sure doesn't seem to deserve it.I'd say it's the figher not tkd who is weak and for those of you who didn't know tkd is a martial art not a sport

    go say that to someone who knows Tuk Gong Mu Sul very well, I'm sure he/she can kill you in any second. Tuk Gong Mu Sul is a martial art used by ROK Speical Forces. Tuk Gong Mu Sul is kind of like more developed form of TKD for use in close combat.

    There is no knockdown by mthai guy's kick. Tkd guy fell down by mthai guy's kicks only when mthai guy was catching tkd guy's foot with his hand. If you don't watch carefully, you can not recognize mthai guy's hand catching tkd guy's foot because this video's quality is not good. Catching foot may be mthai style but that's not fair. If mthai guy didn't use his hand to catch tkd guy's foot, the result could be different.

    This was a match betweeing a taekwondo athlete and a muay thai athlete, playing under muay thai rules. In taekwondo competitions, competitors are not allowed to kick under the belt. Not so in this match.
    I'm not defending the TKD guy, though. He did have a weak stand. A couple of times his backspin sidekick missed its target though the muay thai didn't even move. I've seen 1st & 2nd dan's who kick better than he did.
    Did the TKD guy lost to the muay thai guy in this match under muay thai rules? Yes. Did TKD lost to muay thai? No.

      Think of it this way: if a TKD guy and a Muay Thai guy are in a ring, it doesn't matter which rule applies since it's "your loss" if you choose NOT to kick under the belt. That's the biggest problem with TKD. So many Koreans defend this discipline, saying that there's another form of TKD that will kill anyone in close combat. But that doesn't change the fact that "TKD" itself is flawed.

      TKD aims at knocking out the opponent by kicking the head, but the MT guy's stance greatly reduces this possibility. If the upperbody is well guarded, the TKD guy had to kick under the belt -- which he didn't, because he was simply "not used to it." This alone put a TKD practioner in a grave disadvantage since the number of his available arsenals drastically reduces. Also, by standing firmly on the ground, MT kicks (high/low/knee blows)are much stronger than TKD kicks (this has to do with Newton's action-reaction principle) and that's why the TKD guy landed on his ass so many times. The action-reaction principle is also why some Kung Fu moves require one to stomp hard on the ground with one's leg and deliver a blow with elbow or punch at the very same moment.

    • Taekwondo is a Low level martial art

      Why do taekwondo fighter defends on the rules, if you will engage on a fight on the street then no rules will be implemented "you cant say to your enemy that(no hitting below the belt). Besides if your martial art fight's with a rule then its not a martial art that will be use in real fight. I think taekwondo must prove that their art is a worth it, prove it on UFC! but i dont see any taekwondo art in the UFC anymore maybe in the UFC 1 to UFC 3 but now, dont think so may taekwondo accepted it that they cant win with other martial art with no rules, because real fighting and martial art means NO RULES!

      They are also not allowed to hit in the face. They wear chest protectors. TKD is dangerous to the practicioners because they have the idea that they know self defense and they do not. They know how to kick and not how to block. They spar with their hands by their waists and dont block their face.
