Hi. I went through the Hurricane. I used to live in Metairie ,Louisiana which is just outside of New Orleans. My home was destroyed. My wife is dead. I now live in NC where I'm trying to piece my life back together. All I know is that I don't blame Bush for anything, I blame our local black leadership. After the Hurricane was over I saw blacks helping whites and vice versa. What I did not see was any Black leadership. I saw The Red Cross passing out meals. I saw the Southern Baptists bringing trucks, food, clothing, and even portable showers. I DIDN'T see Jesse Jackson or Louis Farrakhan handing out meals. I DID NOT see the local NAACP giving clothes. Bush is damned if he does and damned if he doesn't. His job isn't easy.

Another example of members of ethnic minorities stirring up racial tension. Racism against whites doesn't seem to matter though.

I am South African and everybody is eaqual now but poverty is at the highest of highs and we have a black government. Maybe its more than that, if we all seek Jesus Christ you will find perfect peace.

I’m so tired of hearing this racist issue. The fact is! … We have certain groups of people in this society … (Of all colors) … that feel that the government owes them a free ride. In my opinion, this government welfare system has done nothing but breed lazy individuals. They have forgotten to think, and work, for themselves and for there own advancement in life.
There are so many wonderful programs out there today for people to get a better education, a better job, a better way of life.

I also went through the hurricane and i used to live UPTOWN. we made the mistake of fleeing downtown. downtown was HELL. its not that he doesnt like black people, its he doesnt give a S**t about new orleans. Okay,so obviously there is racism in the world, it's everywhere, and you don't have to witness a hurricane just to see that. Racism is around every corner in America, unfortunately, and it's not always necessarily white on black, it's everyone jumping everyone else. Now, this is coming from two high school students who haven't even experienced life, and yet, at times, it takes up to 50 years for some people to realize that racism does exist because they are living in a delusional utopia and not opening their eyes to what the world is really like. Yeah, to some degree it's Bush's fault because he appointed an idiot as the FEMA director. But it's also the fault of the local government because they failed to carry out the duties of their office and instead were caught up in their stupid political game. As for the victims of the hurricane, whether they left or not, their properties and all their material possessions are gone. Maybe the gov. will do better on the recovery! Hopefully....

There will always be people who are out and willing to cause others to share their racist feelings. Many people must understand that it isnt a race that is being predjuice against you,it is a few people. I see many white folks who are decent enough to wave at me when i wave at them. I have also seen a number who have ignored me. But I have also seen the same exact thing with people of all races. First, not a Bush fan, but black people weren't the only ones hurting in the wake of Katrina. Secondly, the one thing that popped into my head when I watched news coverage in the first days after the disaster was that so many of these people they showed, black AND white, had the attitude that someone should always take care of them. What about the notion of holding down a job, providing a home for yourself, feeding and clothing your kids yourself, maybe getting yourself neutered so you don't crank out more kids than you can support? As a middle-class taxpayer who has had to earn everything I have, I really resent the "take care of me" attitude.

I lost my home in the 1994 earthquake in CA. The state and town have first reponsiblity to help its people. FEMA came in later to give money to rebuilt. You know its not always about skin color. Some people need to get off the pity pot and look at what life is. S**t happens to us all.

people in new oreans had a full weeks noticed ahead of time for their asses to get out, but they wanted to stay. and this is what happens. George bush is too stupid to be racist, he's dumb as it is. i bet he can't even tell whos a different colour. the fact is that they had a weeks notice, groge bush is not a racist, no matter how much i dislike him.

All Americans have the same opportunities! If they choose to lay around and wait for others to think for them, they will die and starve to death. All Americans must tell blacks this truth. It was blacks' moral poverty - not their material poverty - that cost them dearly in New Orleans. Farrakhan, Jackson, and other race hustlers are to be repudiated - they will only perpetuate this problem by stirring up hatred and applauding moral corruption. New Orleans, to the extent it is to be rebuilt, should be remade into a dependency -free, morally strong city where corruption is opposed and success is applauded. Blacks are obligated to help themselves and not depend on the government to care for them. We are all obligated to tell them so.

Sadly, the two questions don't have the same answer.
To the first: Most of us would take our families out of that city quickly to protect them from danger. Then, able-bodied men would return to help others in need, as wives and others cared for children, elderly, infirm and the like.
For better or worse, Hurricane Katrina has told us the answer to the second question. If you're black and a hurricane is about to destroy your city, then you'll probably wait for the government to save you.
