Abu Dhabi will be the home for Masdar City, a city slated to completed in 2016, will be the worlds first sustainable city.
Buildings will be angled to make the most of solar glare, heat sensitive technology will activate lighting in response to pedestrian traffic, and roof gardens will encourage food production and water efficiency and will be powered entirely by renewable energy sources.
It is costing the country more than $20 billion to complete. Masdar will be completely free of cars, and will use a new rail system and public transport routes. The list of impressive amenities seems never-ending, including movable shade, zero carbon production and zero waste.
Hopefully, Masdar will be the success it is expected to be, and standards for functionality, sustainability and carbon footprint reduction will be raised.
