    • in a world where stupidity exhist.

      sure ooo a gun!
lets im agine for a second.
if everything was going your way...maybe the martial artist was asleep, aching from a long trek through the himal ayas and accide ntly blinded by sand in his eyes....
and you had a gun! then you'd p robably have a fightin g chance.

ofcoa rse if he had a knife, then you'd pro bably have to be well out of his throw ing range with him in an open field where there are no obs tacles to hide be hind and/or no poss ible way of him to get any where close to you or some thing.....maybe you could stand a chance.

of coarse if both of you had guns then you'd be way outa your league on this one, better pack up and go home be fore you hurt your self.

without a gun a martial artist can be skilled like such, what makes you think hes a complete clutz when it comes to firearms?

any monkey can carry a firearm and kill a person.

then again aikido is a self defence art, designed at a level where they are concerned about YOUR safety.
      beat that.

I am a aiki-karate-ka. and i must say.. Aiki-katate-do is the most effective realistic martial art i'v seen.
First, using aikido, you can control your opponent..then if he or more are in such a bad mood that you can't get out, then i'ts time for karate., for those who now the terms..
      Irimi-nage yogogeri-kekomi is verry effective:P
but anyway, id just make a run for it when i can instead of taking the rusk getting stabt to death

that name is quite long...all this to talk about a powerful side kick :P
a yoko gueri is always powerful if it's well trained...no need to be kekomi... but the more destructive way to do it for me is with a sulikomi,,,bruce lee's style babe

First of all, any person who is serious about martial arts that asks them self. "which Martial arts is better" is allready going down the wrong path, Martial arts is a way to express your self threw physical action, and a way to sharpen your mind and body. Aikido is a Martial art that requires you to be intouch with your self, befor you can go anywere with it, When your looking for a martial art, look for something in it that apeals to you.

i'd just like to say, i didn't know that a valey was dark, and aikido is defensive, not offensive. if you ran into them in a dark alley, they would say,"Oops, sorry", and let you pass.

  • Nice...

Very simple techniques for people who want to learn Aikido. FYI, Aikido is used for close defense, not meters away from the opponent. If you have a gun, then you are meters away. no use at all. A true AIKIDOKA bears self control and respect to all. As long as he can control it longer, the better. He uses aikido for emergency cases only, not for street fighting. Aggressive fighting looses the true of aikido. He must keep it a secret. Main principle of Aikido "Peace and Harmony"

  • uke

this is practice, the uke wouldn't be able to stand all the pain, but this is painfull enough believe me!

    i've done jiu-jitsu,muay-thai and now ninjutsu-aikido.
i prefer ninjutsu;it doesn't need that much space,it's quicker and very painfull!!
but do not underestamate aikido in my eyes its THE best way to disarm an opponent right after krav maga!! (krav maga is the israeli gouverments special fighting style against armed attacks)

and in all the 5 years i've been doing martial arts i've learned that all(when mastered correctly)are very painfull and potentially deathly!!!!

  • too strict of form.

is the one thing aikido lacks. theres no movement.
its extremely effective to putting opponents into submissions and ground fighting.
but JKD or Shaolin is much more effective. ive studied both.

  • Aikido is not effective

If aikido was effective than why do the people in this video always have to run at the instructor with their arms out? People dont come at you like that, and they certainly dont let you just flop them about like that, its unrealistic and fancy.

By suicidalkittens 1161589250 Reply Spam Moderate Up Moderate Down
    • you're wrong

If you watch properly before the demonstrator flips them he steps in and steps to the side which put pressure on his wrist giving it more of a painful effect. If they didn't flip they'd break their wrists theres nothing fancy about that. Just look up other Aikido videos it owns all at self-defense, except maybe Shaolin kung fu.

    • why don;t they run at you with their arm...

if they did, it would be easy to get them. just put your foot out and boom, they run into it and they fall over ready to throw up from gettin kicked in the stomach. is simple, but if they have their arms out, maybe they can catch your foot, or fist, whichever comes at them. and remember. these are DEMONSTRATIONS.

    • this is crap

he was talking about an attacker who keeps his balance. a simple foot out and pray the attacker runs into it .. isn't gonna work. You have to put your foot out effectively without sacrificing balance. Very easy to write things on the internet. Very easy to say things. Very easy to do a move when people are letting you. Its a different ball game in a real situation

  • Real fights

Take from a guy whos been in lots of fights. These guys are practicing very well, they go over the styles with control. In a real fight they'd do very well. They got the style and power. All they need is a reason to unleash it and they'd dish out some severe pain. This movie is merely them practicing. DUH ITS NOT A REAL FIGHT IDIOTS!!! Any fighter can see that. But it's good to practice. Id rate this as a good style.

  • aikido is very efficient

i agree with some comments that the attacker is not "fully" attacking. The reason why in "training" you do not attack "in full" is because damage to the body is inevitable. That is also the reason why there are no competition fights as in karate. By my own experience, you automaticly react, as hard or agressief the attack may be. for me it is the best "defence"sport.

  • Aikido is highly effective

It does however, take quite a long time to learn. Karate and basic kung fu (Wing Chun, Hun Gar, etc.) can be learned quick, for basic self defense effectiveness. Aikido takes approximately 4-6 YEARS to become extremely effective on its own. However, if you cross train (which you should do with any art) you can apply the moves within one year, as a compliment to another art. Personally I reccomend taking a striking art, a ground fighting art, and aikido, judo, or a kung fu that focuses on chin na (joint locks). Essentially the locks in chin na and aikido are the same, the philosophy of movement is different. Likewise, since say Eagle Claw style is very straight foreward use of chin na (less circular movements) it can be a great compliment to aikido training, especially when you have less room to move.

    • I really...

hate when people put "time frames" on these sports. If you are truly interested in the sport and practise to truly learn rather than thinking "oh well i'll never know how to do this for another 6 years" it can take 6 months. It is a combination of natural adeptive abilities, learning abilities, previous martial arts experience, and willingness to learn. Aikido is NOT an offensive martial art, and it doesn't have a concrete structure. You use whatever means are at your disposal.

  • Well Done

I have been training in Full Contact Karate for 12 years and teaching for 8 of those 12 years. I find the style of Aikido to be almost balletic. As I was reading some other comments, you have to remember that an average would-be attacker won't come up to you with 'style'. They're only thinking of the damage they could possibly do to you. Most of the moves the 'attackers' used would be used against you in a real situation. They want to hurt you with maximum damage and force and they don't care how they do it. Therefore, the use of Aikido uses the momentum of the would-be attacker against that person and puts that person on the ground to give the attakee a few seconds to make a quick get-away. Number one rule in any Martial Art, I believe, is to try everything in your power to avoid a confrontation, if that is not feasable, immobolise that person for a moment to make good a quick get-away in order to alert authorities. martial Arts are not there to 'beat the crap out of others'.

I train i full contact karate and i think aikido is a very atractive and fluent style wich combines well with karate as it is a complete oppiste.those whose critisise do not look at the full picture of course its controlled in the dojo if it wasnt then youd have no students left the reason these techniques are pratised over and over is so that they become reflex.
aikido is a very nice looking martial art and can be very effective . if your assailent gets hurt then they shouldnt be attacking you

    • Second the motion

Uke in this demo are just doing their part for training. The real abilities aren't demonstrated here as they would be far too debilitating to the uke. To see what really would occur google up some "Randori" Try to find some against Black belt with high Dan ratings. This is a truly devastatingly effective art. To be noted, the "Target" is being quite gentle in letting their attacker go to the mat. In real life, the attacker is so wiped by hitting the ground that there is no counter attack. I would challenge anyone that believes it to be fake to go and visit a Aikido school. Just try it, you may even be convinced that the instructor is truly benevolent in that you are alive after your introduction.

first of all... aikido is a martial art formed to disarm samurai. It is an empty hand martial art which uses the opponents force against them. they redirect the momentum. unfortunately.. people do not blindly run at each other their their arm wide up like they want a hug. This is a martial art used to combat samurai that had swords since swords for commoners were outlawed. a waste of time actually.

you can tell that the uke (the guy getting thrown about) is experienced, why else would he be doing advanced kata. Aikido kata is not a fight, its a partnership. There is often more pressure on the uke than the torre to get it right. A good uke can make all the difference. I'm sure u know that, right?

When you are being attacked, surely you could make the effort to get to your feet.
And you`d have to ask yourself, why do these people always attack the same person, he must have been very offensive, perhaps he needs to brush up on his people skills.
