  not lucky at all. Later that afternoon he was helping change the wheel on the truck. Even though they'd set down a wide footplate, the jack slipped in the soft sand and the axle fell on the man's legs. He was trapped for over an hour (the jack had buckled and was useless) and when they finally freed him he'd died of shock, brought on by internal bleeding.
  
  So yes, he cheated death, but later the same day death came and took him away from us.
