the "depleted" in "depleted uranium" refers to the fact that it is no longer radioactive. It is used because of the combination of it's density, ability to penetrate better than other materials, and it's tendency to spontaneously combust.

The depleted prefix, not indicative of a lack of radioactivity, explains the chemical isotope that is used, 235U as opposed to 238U--the molecule concentration that is needed for weapons-grade uranium. Depleted uranium is merely the byproduct of the enrichment process by which enriched uranium is obtained. It is called depleted because it is the radioactive by-product of refined uranium, unusable for purposes of fission, yet radioactive all the same. They don't keep this shiat locked up in vast cavernous complexes beneath mountains just for the hell of it...

The original Nagasaki and Hiroshima bombs were simple fission bombs. H-bombs, with a fusion fuel like Tritium, has a much higher yield, in the range of megatons. By comparision, the hiroshima and nagasaki bombs had yields measured in kilotons.

Acctually, ICBMs take about 15 minutes from launch to impact, so it'd be more accurate to say that we can end the world in, say, 20 minutes, because any one country is certainly not going to nuke itself, so someone else would have to detect the launch and then retaliate, a process which should take about 5 minutes. But of course, that's not as poetic as six minutes, is it? ^_^

It is not fake, it is a test. That ship was placed there so the ones inside could watch and see the effects of the bomb. I lived in Utah in the 50's and they set off Bombs to test in the Nevada Desert and i could look out a window and see the mushroom from the bomb. We were warned ahead of time to not stand close to the window until the blast had happened because it shook the windows. I learned a lot from that experience. Now it is against the law to set off bombs to test from there.

those ships are actually there to see if they can survive the blast as the navy had wanted to see what the bomb would do to their ships so they used decomissioned ships to observe the damage and see if they could survive the blast and what state they would be in. i have seen lots of videos about this sort of thing as well of researching it, and there are alot of videos where the army have purposly placed objects like houses, tanks, planes, even people in some tests to see if they could still be used after. if you observe aeral shots of this test you will see ships at different distances

Who said that it was nice? He said that he likes to learn, as do I, and without this sort of footage it's hard to appreciate the real power and destructive capabilities of a nuclear weapon. And it's important that people appreciate that power, or someone may be tempted to misuse a nuclear weapon. And keep in mind that this bomb today would be one of the least powerfull in our nuclear arsenal.

People say its amazing to build a nuke and launch it at some country. The power was amazing, more than any bomb combined! We could win the world war with this! BOOM! 300,000 people gone! Ok, first of all "Atom" and Nuclear are the same. The bomb blows up because of the splitting of an "Atom" at the Nuclear level.. see how that works? Same S**t .
Also, this was a small device used on bikini island to test the destructive forces on naval vessels. Needless to say, it was devastating.

Atom bombs are in Kilotons, H bombs in megatons.
