This magnificent airport closed in 1998 - but not before going down in history as one of the greatest! Aircraft had to take a dangerous right turn to land over many buildings... one of the most amazing views as many skillful pilots landed their large jumbo jets under very difficult conditions! We even caught last second aborted landings due to the danger! Picturesque scenery of mountains - buildings - and water surround amazing Kai Tak.

    into Kai Tak once in 82 as a child and again in 96 and it was the most exhilarating approach I've had in all my years of flying and that includes a few hair raising moments at various Dropzones around the world. I don't think anything will ever come close.

  • Exciting airport

    If you were on the streets of Kow Loon you could literally see the rivits in the airplanes as they descended into the old airport. It was amazing that they never crashed an airplane into a building.

    The new airport is much safer and beautifully designed.

    ... done that! hehe ... seriously, went to Hong Kong before and landed at Kai Tak airport. Magnificent experience; rather dangerous though ...... but kinda miss it :-)
