Science demonstration. Mixing corn starch and water produces a non-Newtonian fluid which has both the properties of a solid and a liquid. Great fun for kids of all ages.

I work in a kindergarten and try to learn/teach/show kids the wonderful and fascinating world of science. Instead of just putting plastic beads on a plastic tray or similar mindnumbing activities I try to make them think and wonder about everything around them. "Experiments" like this is just what I need in my work. Thank you for providing this, and thank you for helping me raise a new generation of "out of the box" thinking individuals.
P.S. Before flaming my english, please put into consideration that I am Norwegian, all complaints in Norwegian only please ;OP

A supercooled liquid is a substance that has not undergone a phase change from liquid state to solid state even though it has been cooled below its freezing point. A pertubation to this type of liquid (such as striking or seeding) will cause it to immediately phase change.

Thanks for the reply. Starches are complex carbohydrates that plants produce to store excess glucose (sugar). It's basically a polymer made of sugar molecules.

Corn starch (or other kinds of starch) can be found at a grocery store, usually in or near the baking goods/flour aisle. At least that's where it was in my grocery store.1570862
