All people that do martial arts like to protect the one they do. I have studied several and have attained black +. I teach not only the army but also several police forces and special forces around the world. Competition is of course different to street scenario's but, everyone has to start somewhere. there is a lot tobe said in all of the martial arts but generally 'fights' come down to grapple. All martial artists that use theirs for self defence should try many and mix the best parts of each one.

By karlybigbabeqe 1191417124competition fighting of course is different from street fighting!
quit trying to compare them!
2nd
each sport has it's pluses, and JJ can do just as well against multiple people if the user stays standing...he doesn't have to go down on the ground
3rd
do a bit of research and ask urself what the cops army and special forces like to use as training guide
oh and since we're all boasting our MA's - TKD
and yes yes i know it's more sport now than self defense so u can all go stfu
learn? How many one step black belts have to get throtled in the streets before we understand that static fighting skills will get you killed. The teacher in this video would have been taken out or at least cut badly. (Ten plus years of Kali)
By kali/silat 1169528086I learn Tsutsumi Ryu Ju Jitsu. From day dot you are trained using what is referred to as ' reflex' so whilst initial training skills might be from static fighting , youre trained to use them from an attack. Whatthat attack is, you dont know , hence why its called reflex...
On a side note, the method we use was taught worldwide by Jan De Jong. He was of dutch/indonesian extract and there is some silat moves included in our training..
most MA's deal with no weapons so comparing knifing, which special forces also deal with (the hunted, awesome movie), with a non weapons MA is a pointless comparison
stop comparing sht that isn't comparable!!
pissing me off
it's like saying kendo vs kali
or sniper rifle vs kali
or apache helicopter vs kali
MA's teach physical toughness and a fighting spirit
some are more external than internal
go watch "mind body kickass moves" and learn something
and if i were to list MA's as top self defense systems i'd say learn kali, JJ, JKD, and kick boxing
master'm all then go learn to fly an apache
jiujitstu is good in the ring but crap in real life.sure you can choke someone out or break there arm but what do you do against 3 people (fyi 3 year student of muay thai, wing chun, and jkd)
By huckyourselfxx 1169485679read the post titled" idiots' its aimed at you. In Ju Jitsu you are trained against multiple attackers, hell further up the scale thats what you have to do to get your belts. Ok using your example 3 people, you break one of the pricks arm. You reckon hes going to get back up again with his elbow disclocated? I think not...What the other two going to think when you see what youve done to their mate, either risk the same or be a little more wary.
By Ptah 1169555141because if u r u don t know any thing about it
i dont know in the usa ,but in brasil every bjj academy take 1or 2 days of the week to train vale tudo , it includes muai thai and boxing ,so we know how to defende ourselfs in a fight against 2 or more oponents
excuse my english
you use muay thai and boxing to defend against 2 or more people ( cant bjj do that)
By huckyourselfxx 1169570959buddy,
u study 3 impact MA's
if u think that u'd still be standing in a street fight without getting grabbed, wrestled and stomped on u've been spending too much time in the "ring"
asshles pick fights cuz they got larger numbers or they're plain physically bigger, or they're drunk (le's ignore this one)
ground and pound! as the saying goes
if u can't out grapple someone on the streets u're in trouble
u don't have to stay on the ground but u have to be able to escape
tha's the key point i'm trying to make
understanding how to get out holds and back on feet will save ur head from the wonderful experience of "curbing"
in jkd they teach you parts of every fighting style . so yes i do have some ground game. in not big (5'10" 155pounds)nor do i drink. but i have one ? for you. how can you see to grap me when your nose is broken and your choking on blood. and do you think a street fight is gonna be between you and the other guy . no, its gonna be you against him and his 3 friends.so while your trying to ground and pound someone the other guys are beating your face in. i know i am for a fair fight, but in todays world there is no honor in fighting. i got alot of respect for people who master a art but i am making my own style. that is the way of jeet kun do. to honestly express ones self through maertail arts. one more thing the TRUE MASTERS have no style. fyi wing chun is known as a anti grappling style
By huckyourselfxx 1169821473buddy
u missed what i said, read it again
for us polite people we get picked on by the bigger, drunker asshles
tha's what i'm talking about
people who PICK the fights, not the defenders, are the bigger, drunker whatever
2nd, ground and pound was refering to when u get grabbed down and his buddies stomp ur face in
what i meant by my comment before was that u have to be able to free urself, manuevre out of the ground
stay on ur feet people!
can't stress this enough
run ngga run!
like i said before, know how to get out of holds and up on ur feet or u're going to get ur face stomped in
fyi
wing chun was built by a lady
no sht she would prefer not to grapple
