  • I wish he was. He ...

I wish he was. He developed optic fibers more than 40 years ago. Without these, we would be not able to use long distance calls at a low price. He now has Alzhimer's disease. I feel so sorry for such a great and selfless scientist. It is reported that he is planning to donate part of the prize money to the US Alzhimer's disease research centre and the elderly service centre in Hong Kong.

  • Without Charles K ...

Without Charles K Kao's discovery, we would not have had the convenience of communication or even Youtube. He deserves the belated prize. He should have got it much earlier. He did not apply for the copyright for it; otherwise, this technology would be very expensive and much less commonly used. He did not get rich in spite of this marvellous achievement.
