Good things come to those who want
All the people here that are very hypocritically telling the creationists to stop "pressing their beliefs" on everybody could be very well helped by their own proud, obnoxious, vulgar words.
By JesusFish 1131934475if we evolved from apes then why are apes still here? dumb evolutionists
we dumb ?
the apes and us have a common ancestor capice ?
doesnt mean that we were apes before , aight ?
anyway, if some serpent offers you an apple today dont eat it... yes yes one of them talking serpents that you ppl are so fond of
There are apea around today because they have notevolved dumb ass, because of all the selective breeding etc when we started to become men, we didnt want to have sex with monkeys anymore, get a life bible boy
By rancidaluminium 1136897072Apes are around today, not because they have not evolved (presumably you mean 'further'), but because they are well adapted to their niches. Every thing that is alive today is every bit as evolved as every other: to be here today, not one of their ancestors died young or without issue.
And the 'Great Chain of Being' or 'Evolutionary Ladder' idea went out with the, erm, Ark.
'Evolutionists' may be ignorant. Evolutionary biologists, palaeon tologists and so on are not, because they spend their lives studying what you deny even happens. Weird, huh?
And many are as theistic as ye like: check out the American Scientific Affiliation at www.asa3.org .
Of course, maybe they are not True Christians (TM).
People who are broad-minded got that way because they can think for themselves and they are willing to make the effort. Narrow-minded people got that way because they dont think for themselves, they like to be told what to think by some 'authority'. The idea of an ultimate authority makes them feel safe in a dangerous world.
By 1129446779So you are telling those that don't think like you they are narrow minded? And if they happen to think like you, they are broad minded? The idea of an ultimate authority is a lot scarier than believing we all evolved from apes or whatever. That former belief entails accountability, the latter doesn't!
By Bust_Yo_Ass 1129744883What has thinking like me got to do with anything? Broad minded people believe all sorts of things, some of them may even be christians? What I am saying is that they are willing to look at more than one alternative, and not just latch onto the first idea that comes their way. Elessar calls evolutionists 'ignorant', meaning they lack infornmation, this is simply not the case. A lot of christians seem to think that non-christians haven't heard the message, the fact is most of us have, but we are not impressed. People who believe in re-incarnation also believe in accountability, but we see the universe as loving and forgiving, christians dont. Christians want to punish everybody who doesn't (not) think like them.
By 1129790832I do see your point. I for one am very broad minded, but I am also a Christian. I am not a Bible thumper, and am a LONG way from perfection, but I do believe in the Bible, although that opens up another can of worms interpretations . But alot of things are not open to interpretation, they are clear as a bell. A real Christian should not want to punish anyone - that is God's job. And yes, God is loving and forgiving as we should be, but there will also come a day of judgement & accountability - there again, God's job, not ours! God only commanded us to love others as ourselves. As for the evolution thing, I could never become passionate about something that is only a man's theory. Gotta follow my heart and that is where I can know and feel every day that it's true. And I like you just the same whether you agree with me or not and I have LOVED a lot of your comments I've read. I hope I never behave like some of the "christians" you must have encountered!
By 1129832521Descending is not the same thing as evolving! Might want to study up on the meanings of those two words so YOU don't sound so dumb!
By Bust_Yo_Ass 1129744497hey Oolon, be aware my Iti bretheren brought about the introduction of pizza to the U.S of AAA, and with the merging of pizza and guinness brought forth the evolution of couch potatoes and the greatness of the U.S of AAA became that much BIGGER!!! AYE AYE AYE!
By 1129478162Yeah dude... creationists... HAHAHAHA I mean, you gotta be kiddin'!! >:D
By Ok@mi 1129813483open all your senses and come to terms that the patterns God created involves CHANGE!! the only constant in the universe is change......and we all know it down to the very core of our being......just breath in the force of God and understand its essence is translated in a constant flux of energy!! THATS CREATION THAT IS!!!!XXXXX
By 1129116150Get ready for it... I'm about to have a rant. Ready? Hmm? Are we? Alriiiight...
First... I'm gonna start with: I LOVE GUINNESS! SOOO GOOD! Sheer BLISS in a pint!
Anyway, on to business.
There were animals living and dying, people growing and multiplying, and worshipping other gods before "The one 'GOD'" Was even thought up, ok? The evidence of evolution is overwhelming, there is NOTHING to support ANYTHING said in the Bible except for a bunch of brainless S**ts who can't think for themselves. You're going to let a BOOK run your life? Seriously? You BELIEVE that? Ok... so you say "God wrote it" right... no, people wrote it. And rewrote it, and rewrote it, and rewrote it, and then changed it, and then rewrote it some more... You say God gave them the power to do it? Couldn't God have given scientists the power to discover evolution?
Here's something to ponder... if Jesus lived NOW rather than in the past, would you listen? Oh wait, NO! Because you'd have DIFFERENT beliefs by this point eh? Jesus would be laughed at and thrown in a freakin' mental institution!!!!! Don't say "No he wouldn't! i'd be faithful!" Because we all know you wouldn't. You wouldn't even know he existed. You all talk about "Christ returning!" Two problems with that one, folks: 1 - We don't even know if he existed. 2 - If he DID, and if he/she DOES, are you gonna listen? Some kid's just gonna jump out of bed one day and go "Hey! I'm the next messiah!" and you're going to go "Yay! I waited for you, Jesus! You're back!"
the best adverts ever... just look at the surfing one http://www. metacafe. com/watch/ 104229/ guinness_ad _with_surfers _and_white _horses/
do they have guinness in america btw?
I thought the ad said Good things come to those who WAIT, not WANT....
By Porcupine75 1136055405Great ad, fair play to ingenious adverts that get the mind thinking. I really would like a guinness right now!!!
By 1132062298absolutley brilliant advertising. Creative, amusing and excellently executed.
By 1131834286blah blah I believe ____ therefore I am right, blah blah believing _____ is convienant for me therefore it must be true and I am right. How about enjoy the video you retards. Sheesh. Debating religion is about as useful as headbutting bowling balls. Seriously.
By 1129545335It's a good, funny ad. The science is all over the place, but what the hell...
By 1129305443everyone has their own beliefs so come on guys - you have just seen an ad - sit back and enjoy it!
By Aussie_Vixen58 1129191481lighten up is the best way to put it. believe what you want...I think people are entitled to that right. But if you are going to deny the obvious and curse others for what they believe...then you are really stupid. That and you'll die...alone, and stupid, and dead!!!
By 1129172731actually, it's good things come to those who wait, not want. wait, as in, they waited about 40 million years, lol
By DistantHunter 1129147360I can see why they licked their lips. They waited a hell of a long time for their Guinness.
By gunnar 1128712109It's a TV AD. Why do the Christian fundementalists see anything more in it?
By fuzzylogic 1143333587O'mGod, the religious will have ruptured arteries over THIS commerical! I thought it was imaginative and cute.
you wanna know more about the big bang? Suggest you ask yo momma where she was last friday night. IT'S A TV COMMERCIAL!! Go elsewhere to discuss your views on enslaving the world, ooops I meant religion..
By 1130345938I thought Brits use proper grammar in English... yo momma??
By Porcupine75 1136055489I thought porcupines couldn't even speak to begin with... "I thought Brits use proper grammar in English... yo momma??" ??
By MoronicIrishDrunk 1165475137I second the guy who said, I quote 'Get over it. This is not a theological discussion forum, it's a F**king commercial'. It's a great, amusing and engaging ad. And for reference, to the guy who's been busy harping on about Noah's Ark - the Bible is full of metaphors, things that are written may not have actually happened as described. You big bell end.
By 1130315536Where do the Dinos fit into this?
The only reason people cling onto religion is because they're scared of dying. I'd rather believe what I saw in the Guiness ad than that old rubbish any day!
The reasons for religious belief may be as you say. But evolution is not antithetical to religious belief, any more than atomic theory, germ theory or quantum theory are. It only upsets those for whom the Bible has to be read literally. Which seems an odd thing to do, given that, no matter how inspired, it has been written by men.
Maybe it's just me, but I fail to see why God would *not* describe his creation to a bunch of Bronze age goatherders in the sort of way we find in Genesis... confident in the knowledge that we'd work out how he really did it later. If He does exist, he must be laughing his divine arse off at those who still take what he told 'those ignorant folks back then' literally today!
The only reason that people hold on to evolution is because they don't want the moral obligation of believing in God. Just look at Charles Darwin, he was a minister until his daughter and wife died so he decided to explain away God so as not to be "burdned" by following Him anymore. The video, however, was cute.
By JesusFish 11319331611) There are plenty of 'theistic evolution ists', so claiming that people only cling to evolution to avoid god is plain false.
2) Darwin was never a minister. He tried training as a doctor but couldn't stand the blood. He was always a naturalist, and was on course to becoming a country parson when he was invited to accompant Fitzroy on The Beagle. Though his daughter's death may have pushed him towards agnosticism, so did Ichneumon wasps. And it was his observations of the natural world that led him to discover natural selection, not an atheistic agenda.
3) The video, however, is vastly inaccurate in all sorts of ways, but great fun.
4) If you want to make a fool of yourself - uh, sorry, discuss creation - do it somewhere appro priate, that is, not here.
Get over it. This is not a theological discussion forum, it's a F**king commercial.
By Erk 1129197362There is so much evidence supporting evolution, to say it hasn't occured is ludicrous, it has even been witnessed in scentific experiments. I'm not having a stab at your religion, your entitled to believe whatever you want, but I believe you should keep your own thoughts to yourself and stop trying to convert everyone, it only discredits yourself and your religion.
By 1129167085Ever notice how many times evolutionist scientists use these words: may have, could have been, perhaps, somehow etc.? There are so many loopholes in the evolution THEORY that I could sit here all night listing them. And for you people that are telling us creationists to cool it, I won't. I am a JESUS FREAK and I will not cool it. This is about eternity here! Not just some argument of where we came from. Ever read the bible? Maybe you should think about doing that.
By 1129335781I have read the bible from front to back and attended bible study groups. All this as an adult. There are so many 'loopholes' in biblical theology that I could sit here for the rest of my life listing them. The early Christians are known to have believed in reincarnation. This was taught by people like Justin Martyr who started the first christian school in Rome. But it was dropped at the Council of Nicea in 325 AD because it didn't fit with the need for redemption. Jesus taught LOVE for your fellow man. I have no doubt that he would be appalled by the HATE promulgated in his name - that is of course if he wasn't above such human failings.
By 1129449461Read it again, this is a metaphorical sword, not a literal one! He is merely discribing the situation of different family members having different religious beliefs, and so not enjoying peaceful relationships, as shown by your posting 'wrong place'.
By 1129616245This is an inappro priate place to discuss your foolish statements. I suggest knocking it off here, but feel free to come on over to a discussion board dedicated to exactly this purpose, eg the Evolution / Creation board at www.iidb. org.
If you insist on persisting here, I'll have no alter native but to bore everyone else with why you are wrong, in detail. So, apologies in advance, folks!
The comments by gyro are not foolish or wrong. Nor are they rude or egotistical. The same cannot be said for your comments. The bible is a collection of 'documents' sellected by men without great credibility, who omitted important texts because they didn't suit their ulterior motives. You cannot prove anything to a non-believer by quoting from the bible, because to non-believers it is just a book.
By 1129617148I agree with both you and gyro; but I fear you think I was replying to Gyro. I was replying to elessar22; it is his comments that are foolish and wrong. He is welcome to voice his objections at a suitable forum, eg the IIDB, but if he continues to spout ill-informed creationist antiscience guff, I will continue to call him on it. Sorry for the confusion.
By 1129630307evolution is evolution, you can't go against ...
this video is great
No, they are not idiots, merely uninformed (but think they are). They have been lied to, and don't know enough about biology and palaeont ology to see why these things are lies... like most people, really.
It's pretty galling, though, that they reap all the benefits of science -- like posting comments with their computers -- while rejecting one of science's most fundamental findings.
Sorry, but anyone who actually believes the bible is non fiction seriously needs their head tested! Take Noah's Ark for example. Do you really believe that a man and his two (?) sons could build a boat that would hold every breed of animal on Earth? and how the hell did they get every animal on Earth inside it? I can't remember the last time I heard about polar bears wondering around
the Middle East! Did Noah's boat have a warp drive installed?
The Ark had more then enough room for two of every animal. You have to remember that Noah built the Ark over a period of a hundred years. It was 450' long, 75' wide and 45' high. The animals only used up a fraction of the space allowed. The Ark had the capacity to hold 522 railroad type stock cars; each stock car could hold 240 sheep size animals (remember God didn't have to bring Mommy and Daddy Brontosaurus; the babies could do just fine) for a total of 35,000 animals that could fit all together. Remember God, who has the power to speak a universe into existence could eaisly handle gathering up a fraction of His created animals.
By JesusFish 1131934186Hahahaha! Ho ho, good one! Been reading Woodmorappe, eh?
Please refrain from spraying discussion of an advert with such bald and bold assertions. But do feel free to visit www.iidb.org, where I will happily show you that you are talking out of your fundament alism.
If it weren't for Eve listening to a snake in a tree talking telling her to eat the apple, why my goodness! can you imagine.. we would not be here!! But she did and so she begat 2 BOYS.. and one was killed at that - then they went off and low and behold there was more people. Never been explained where these people came from.
By Swanie 1138143056I think the word you were looking for is counter intuitive. But I realise that's a bit of a long one for a creationist to cope with (or for me to type after a few Guinnesses ;-)
(Sheesh, had to split it up cos the software can't cope with words longer than 15 letters either!)
Now Elrss22 is not allowed to choose her own words, or decide what words best describe her opinion?! And Creationists are too dumb to understand big words simply because they believe differently than you? What a hypocrite!
By Bust_Yo_Ass 1129746564No, Busty, Elessr can choose her(?) own words. She just needs to pick them more carefully, because she used the wrong one. Evolution is not irrational, and saying it is does not make it so. Question is, can she (or you) *justify* your opinion that it is irrational? I can, that it is not.
And no, Busty. Creationists are not too dumb *because* they disagree. They are generally just ill- informed. Some are apparently deliberately obtuse, though, which is IMO a synonym for 'dumb'.
As for hypocrite... I wonder who splattered this conversation with [-boring] and [-offensive] tags?
If you wish to discuss this, get your fundament (-alism) over to the IIDB. Put up or shut up.
Creationists are not ill-informed. We all were required, I'm sure, to learn this theory in school. Been to the IIBD. Nothing there that would change my mind. And I don't care to change yours, so just relax and let creationalists believe as they want. It doesn't mean they are dumb or ill-informed. I know many brilliant creationalists. And you and I could debate this forever, but it's pointless and the mud-slinging is just plain stupid. I'll try to behave if you will!
By 1129833629Correction: not *all* creationists are ill- informed. Just the ones saying things like 'why are there still apes?'... don't you think?
Ref the IIDB, I pointed people there, not for mind- changing, but because it is a discussion forum -- one relevant to E/C discussions, which an advert chat site is not.
Finally, I do let creationists -- or anyone else -- *believe* what they want. It's when they open their mouths and come out with egregious twaddle that I have to correct them!
Creationists may not all be stupid people, but ignorance and stupidity don't necessarily go hand in hand. Believing in creationist mumbo-jumbo rather than science that's supported by massive amounts of evidence is just the same as believing that the world is flat or that disease is caused by evil spirits.
Wouldn't you consider people who still believe that kind of thing to be ill-informed about the existence of germs or the shape of the Earth? To me creationists seem just as ignorant about the world when they dismiss science in favour of superstition and magic.

Because we choose to believe in creationism, then we also don't know the world is round or anything about germs! Ok, that is funny. Not true, but funny! You also must realize that this is a pointless argument, and I'm sure you'll never understand why we believe in Creationism unless you, too, experience that mind and heart changing experience that comes with truly turning your life over to Jesus Christ. Way too much time wasted on theology, theory and things that don't matter in the end. The only important thing in the end is what we all did with the time given us on this earth. I don't plan to spend it arguing over something this trivial or childish name calling.
By 1129849257You want to live your life to fullest? Why give it to someone else? Because you were told to. Because a book told you to. But you know what? Live and let live, right? If you're happy, power to you and your faith. But telling people that "turning your life over to Jesus Christ" is an experience of enlightenment is stepping way out of line. You're acting like it's heroin. Bloody hell. =S
By MoronicIrishDrunk 1165475477Ref the solar system and germs: no, it just means that you are somewhat better informed about astronomy and diseases than about biology and palaeon tology.
Ref the heart- changing: please take a look at the ASA site I referred to. They all sign up to the statement "we believe in creation". Yet many argue strongly for evolution. Listen up, because it's important: there are many Christians -- most, outside the US -- who have no problem with evolution.
It is a pity that an atheist has to tell you this. :)
we were created by god. to any who does not believe that their is god; guess what, there is god and you gonna burn
By angle1 1146709051"angle1". You appear to be thinking at 90 degrees from reality. Which explains the name, I guess.
"we were created by god"... If you like. All the evidence suggests that His chosen method of creation was descent with modification.
"to any who does not believe that their [sic] is [a] god"... Please note that most theists have no problem with evolution, so your point is a total non sequitur. As it happens, though, your comment _does_ apply to me...
"guess what," ... Um, you're going to throw Pascal's Wager at us? Am I right?
"there is god" .. That's nice. Show me. Erm, elsewhere, please. This is an inappropriate place for such discussions.
"and you gonna burn" ... I doubt it. We don't get much sun in England.
As for burning... I'm an optimistic atheist. I reckon if there is a god, he'll look at the odds and the evidence and forgive me.
