Think about the women in your life. You probably know someone, or have yourself been, directly affected by breast cancer. Every three minutes a woman finds out she has breast cancer. While we can hope to avoid being diagnosed, there is more we can do to manage our risks and support those who are fighting the disease.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Shape Magazine is doing its part with the Pilates for Pink Program, a breast cancer fundraising and awareness campaign launched in 2006 around the popular Pilates fitness craze. Through the program, Shape offers simple everyday strategies that women can adopt to support the cause, reduce their risk for developing the disease, and help spread the word among friends.
Trisha Calvo, Executive Editor at Shape Magazine, offers tips that will help educate women about early detection and risk prevention in order to reduce the overall impact of breast cancer. From the importance of diet and exercise, overall wellness plans, and even the power of positive thinking, Trisha says there are some ways we can all get involved through local and national events this fall, as well as ways we can all contribute by purchasing “pink” products available to help breast cancer research
