Here you guys are championing womens so called freedom, despite whether or not they want it, you just want them to have the right to it, no? So then why do have a "democracy" like France that takes the other road of oppression and bans the wearing of headscarves??? Where is the freedom in that? Where is the fair laws in that??

Why don't you refer to the Bible, specifically I Corinthians 11: 5-13, or ask any Christian cleric, as there's never been a statue, image or otherwise any other depiction of Mary, mother of Jesus, or Mary Magdelene without one.

BTW....the ban is not specific to headscarves...if the other religions can follow the law, why can't islamic citizens.

The law: The law forbids religious apparel and signs that "conspicuously show" a student's religious affiliation. Jewish skullcaps and large Christian crosses would also be banned, but the law is aimed at removing Islamic head scarves from classrooms.

Because they don't have the facility to talk about their rights. This brave intelligent woman is fighting on behalf of the islamic women who cannot stand up for themselves. Why can't they? Because Muslim men keep them down, they are controlled. They have no money no cars no voice. Now talking about women, its not a secret that in muslim countries women have few rights, just like in the western countries, who have given rights to women only cuple of decades ago. Islam has given many rights to women but you guys just can,t digest it. you see torture and abuse of women in Islamic countries but u don,t see that in your own countires because its ok for a child to not have his fathers name as it was just a one night stand. What kind of society you have, women can be date raped, drunk sex, incest sex is very very common in your coutries, bastards are all around, u have even allowed gay marriages now, your women have many many partners before and after marriage. But this is all cool so it doesn,t matter so u start raising your finger at muslim countries, you have less than 1% of women who are a virgin at the time of their marriage. Don,t blame the religion and try to tell people what muhammed did this and jesus did that, Holy books are a mannual for humankind, if you want to improve your life then u should follow these books, if u don,t then its ur choice, but please don,t blame the religion, religion is the nly good thing left on this earth.

Also known as the 'verse of the sword' - "Fight and slay the pagans [Christians and Jews] wherever ye find them and seize them, confine them, and lie in wait for them in every place of ambush" (Surah 9:5)

This is one translation of that passage. The other variations say pretty much the same thing. And YES, Jihad is a requirement of true Muslims.

To make long story short, there are 114 peaceful verses in the Quran. The problem is, Mohammed practiced a little tradition called Nasikh. This means, if he got a "revelation" from Allah that contradicted something earlier, the newer verse would override the older one.

In other words, everything Muslims can quote from the Quran that sounds peaceful (from Mohammed's Mecca days) was overridden by him later on during his murderous "Medina" days.

His days in makkah were harsh thas why he had to flee. His life was in danger.. In madinah he was welcomed with open arms and with a strong coalition he set on to take over the makkah so that it could be the center of islam. I like to think that it being the house of god, as we believe it ofcourse, is a good enough reason for that. There were many wars during that time and in a war people die. Thats what happens. In a revolution people die. Thats what happens. If people were willing to listen to him and not jus throw stones at him while he was trying to help them he would never had fled and returned. Also when he did return he did not kill for pleasure. He spared men who were not attacking him. He gave them assylum. He did not attack a single mother or a child. Think its worse than the crusades?

jihad in its literal meaning means struggle or strive. It could be in everyday life or in the name of Allah. Its a duty for a muslim to continue his everyday struggle in the world and the worship of Allah. It is obviously overused by the media to backup the "jihad" mentality behind all the so called terrorist attacks. So is jihad still wrong??? i could write a lot more to support my argument but thats not what were having here........

You can take the line of quran and use it in what ever way possible. If you've read the whole surah you'll know that in 9:4 it says specifically "but the treaties are not dissolved with those pagans with whom you have entered into alliance and who have not subsequently failed you in anything, or aided any one against you. So fulfil your engagements with them to the end of their term: for allah loves the righteous".
In verse 9:6 it reads "if one amongst the pagans ask you for asylum, grant it to him, so that he may hear the word of Allah; and then escort him to where he can be secure. This is because they are men without knowledge".
Now this is obviously in time of war. If you read the details you can be sure of that fact, but it dosent take einstein to figure out in what context its been written. In time of war if someone is invading my home or threating my family i will kill him and be proved innocent in any western country on basis of self defence.
My request to you is do not misguide peoply about islam. You have quoted one line and i hope people get the chance to read my reply so they can know what is going on here. Some one might jus read what youve quoted and spread it thus spoiling the reputation of islam.
