Boost Your Car Remote Range!

its funny that everyone talks crap about this guy not having a life and all but lets figure it out HMMMM 5 minutes time = chance to make thousands of dollars. I think he's damn smart. I'm still trying to think of something to post to make a little cash with.

I want to try this with an FM transmitter I have in my car, sometimes we drive places in convoys of three or more cars, we can usually all listen to the same things but it can be hard sometimes. Do you know if I can safely do this to an iPod style FM transmitter too?

The video was VERY nicely made however. Much better and easier to follow that MOST tutorials on this website.

If I unlock my car from 50' it relocks itself before I get there.

most cars have systems that if the doors are not opened in 30 secs they close again.. it will benefit though if you loose ur car in a lot..

That's not the antenna, it's a SAW (surface acoustical wave) resonator. Do a Google image search for "saw resonator" to see for yourself.

It's the part of the circuit that sets the transmitted frequency.

Antennas in key fobs are always etched traces on the circuit board. You can spot them because they are usually wider than regular traces and they don't terminate to anything.

Oh yeah, this is illegal as you are increasing the radiated emissions beyond what the FCC allows.

what material was that wire, cuz I tried and it didnt work, so now the remote isnt working anymore as it worked before! Any help?

i got a honda remote and when i open it up, i see 2 small flat surface things. one is about 1mm x .5 mm and the other about 2mm x 1.5mm ish. which one is the antenna? the smaller one is at the top and the other one in the middle (just a little above the battery)

Just place the remote against your head and press the button. Works as well as this hack and no soldering is needed.

That is the oscillator for the radio circuit. How this helps I have no idea, but if it works go nuts.

I hate it when people say "you have too much time on your hands" when someone does something and is very good at it. So what if what he does is different from what you'd normally do... when someone plays guitar, piano, or whatever, you don't find yourself saying "you have too much time on your hands".. only when they find a unique way to perform it do these words come up. Give him props.. he's brilliant.

if a child wold play with the remote ... he can open the car and you won't know .... so it's better to work when you are close to the car, or even by accident you can open it from a long distance, and maibe you won't know

my friend showed me a simple way to increase your range on these. simply put the clicker to your chin and press the button. it increases the range by 10-15 ft or so. I thought it was b.s. until i tried it and it worked.

My stupid car remote keeps unlocking my car which is parked on ground floor... from my office on the 7th floor! The keys wud b in my handbag and i guess it unlocks the car when i bump my handbag against something.
Any ideas, Kipkay?

Holding your remote to your head when you press it works just as well. Its only rarely that you need the extra distance. If mine goes off at night, it won't work if I hold it normally, but does if I hold it against my head. Try it.

putting the keyfob against your skull when you press the button. Actually uses your head as an antenna. Works a treat really, though I'm not sure if it'll gain the extra 50' that a wire antenna extension does.

To test - keep trying the remote whilst walking away till you reach the distance that it doesn't work. Take a couple more steps away then try again this time with remote fob against your forehead. you'll be surprised.
Kudos to Jeremy Clarkson for that one.

I had exposed the end of the wire, but couldn't find an obvious spot to solder to (10-year-old remote), but when I just laid it inside, it helped. A full 2" blocked the buttons, so I cut it back to about an inch, and it still made a big difference, especially since its battery is getting pretty weak.

Put the remote under your chin bone. Your head acts as a antenna. Lost my car twice, thanks to my chin, sounded the alarm atleast 140ft away. Beats the 20ft without my chin.
