I can't imagine myself being in such a pinch that I couldn't just take the time that I would have spent taking apart the 9-Volt and go to the store for some new AAAs. Plus, if you're going to be prepared enough to carry around a 9-volt and a pair of needle nose pliers with you everywhere you go, why not just keep an extra pack of AAAs in your glove compartment, especially if the device you would need them for is potentially life-saving or whatnot? Just my opinion though...

AAA batts are still used on sets on many wireless mics. Ive seen it used for small transcevers for body packs on recent jobs I have worked on i.e. Aguilara tour, Mariah tour, American Idol finalies etc. In regards to MattGFresh's comment above, and I'm only speaking from a professional level , engineers on a music/concert tour are faced with challenges that have to be answered dead on. If an engineer is faced with needing more AAA batts and all they have are 9V's, having that knowlege will go from a potential 30 minute concert delay to a zero concert delay, saving more than 20 grand in facilities charges.

because, I haven't tried any other manufacturer but, I tried this on a Walgreen's brand 9-volt, and no AAAA batteries. Only horizontal cells, six of them, about 1/2 cm thick.

this is a cool trick i tryed it myself. sometimes a 9volt battery has a sort of bag of black powder. i would reccoment duracell or energiser. what ever you do do not use vinnic batterys to open. But be careful about opening there batterys up because when i did it i got the AAA batterys out of it one of them exploded and red hot green powder flew everywhere. lol =)

i study electricity /electronics and if you open a batery most of them will have black dust inside POISENES.
so don't do it with some weaker batery's like in the video abuve you wil see no black dust but with most battery's you will get the black dust that makes the battery's stronger and more durable.

a friend taught me this trick when i was little and i did it back at home. when you take it apart all the batteries are connected by metal to make a long chain of batteries. just dont connect them into a circle and let them sit, they will in fact explode with a small bang. it missed me but theres still a mark on my wall from the explosion.

id be very carefull about doing this for something like an MP3 player, or something like that. if you test the amperage of the cells, you will see a large variation in the aaaa cells found in a 9v cell. i have had these pop in a $90 wireless mouse (fluid all over the inside of the mouse). i would only use this solution for something with low energy draw, like a remote control, or a cheap flashlight.

I work for Ever Ready, what I am telling you is factual..!
Most 9 volt batteries are of the layer type and are constructed of what look like small oval buttons cells and have only a thin polyethylene case to each cell and are held together under compression. Totally unusable when dismantled and the risk of chemical contamination to your hands if you start to play with such batteries.
No batteries contain lead these days, but they DO contain other hazardous chemicals that you wouldn't want in your mouth or eyes, or even just on your hands, so again be warned about this. Life is too expensive to risk it on a battery.

It is one big cell, 1.5vdc. Same voltage as all the other single cell batts (C;AA;AAA;AAAA). It has just the most life in mah (milliamphours) over the others.

keep that in mind that not every 9v battery is formed with 6 AAA batteries... Energizer may be like that but the other brand use different forms of 6 batteries...ı have once opened a 9v and it contains 6 rectengular small batteries...so if you want this 6 AAA you must buy Energizer or you have to examine the other brands first...

Careful , batteries may actually be in reverse polarity as I have found in the 9 volts. The piece sticking out was not positive as in most batteries.These batteries are almost the size of AAAA. i used some folded up reynolds wrap as a spacer (conductive) until i find a better solution. use meter to check or try them backwards.

Most 9V batteries are built out of a stack of cells of thin metal sheet, carbon sheet, and acidic gel that are the full width and depth of the cell. So don't count on having this work unless you're opening up a battery of a particular brand and make that you already know contains the "AAAA" cells.
You're more likely to get acidic gel on your hands than usable batteries, unless you're willing to spend more than the price of a few extra AAA's to tear apart some 9V batteries beforehand.

This video is great and all, but I think kipkay forgot to say one thing or he just didn't know (gasp!)
This Hack should NOT be done on the batterys with the cat jumping through the 9 (forgot the name brand, I think heavy duty or something). If you do you'll get this black stuff (battery acid, i hope i don't die or sumthing!) and it's a mess instead of the great little AAAA's.

Not all 9V batteries are made with six AAAA batteries inside. It depends on the manufacturer. I opened one up and found six rectangular "wafers" stacked on top of each other.

The video doesn't mention an important aspect of this hack. The POLARITY of those internal cells is the opposite of what you'd normally expect. That is, the case it the (+) terminal and the nipple is the (-) terminal. Watch the video again, notice he has the RED (+) voltmeter lead on the case when he takes the readings. So be sure you take the polarity into account if you use this hack, or your MP3 player could be toast.

On average an entire 9 volt battery only has etween 150-200 mah of capacity. Divie that by nine and you are looking at 16.6 miliamps per aaaa battery. It will not sustain enough output to power ANYTHING useful.
9volts power high voltage low consumtpion devices. try it, you will see.

Actually, the amp rating is roughly the same for each little cell. It doesn't add, as it is just current flow, like a longer river. It is the voltage that adds up (6 x 1.5 = 9)

Chance is - when your batteries go flat in your mp3 player, etc, the chance is you won't have a spare 9 volt battery to 'hack' up.So I suggest you go to a shop and buy some batteries for your mp3 player instead of wasting your life.
