Whether you believe that nicotine is addictive or not, it's hard to dispute the latest findings from the University of Geneva which indicate that 92.8% are still smoking, one to four years after using nicotine replacement therapies (NRT).

Whilst talking to the www.stopsmokingcentre.co.uk , Jim describes his experience of using patches and gum.

Since NRT is almost completely ineffective in helping smokers quit, we wonder why your doctor is so keen to push NRT, when the only ones benefitting are the pharmaceutical manufacturers who are banking millions on the failed attempts of smokers desperate to stop smoking.

  • Rubbish!

I think this guy needs a little bit of willpower before using these products, otherwise they are just a waste of money.

    • not really

I don't think will-power is the answer. A smoker needs to understand they're not in the habit of smoking, they're addicted to one of the most addictive drugs known to man-kind. As for the patch, you wouldn't give a crack head a crack patch to get off of crack would ya? He needs to understand his addiction, not be afraid of taking that last hit, and saying no to drugs taking over his life.

  • i dont think there is a conspiracy,

these products don't make you stop smoking, they are an aid to feed the nicotine addiction, without lighting a ciggie. The subject has to WANT to stop smoking, so personal will power plays a big part to resist lighting up. Who agrees with me?

I've smoked, stopped for 12 years, smoked again for about 10 years
Now I've stopped again, for about 2 months now.
      Cold turkey
and it was "easy" because simply one day my body and I agreed that it
      was enough.

If you really want to stop, it's easy. Just don't smoke.

Some people I know "try" to stop, go to meetings, use patches, whatever.
All bullshit. They say they want to stop, they probably think they want to stop,
too. but in their hearts they don't want to.

So what I'm saying to illustrate how right you are: it's a mental thing.
Instead of stupid patches maybe you could meditate with these people and get them to REALLY want to stop

I smoked for 8 years but wanted to stop, had tried a few times but failed. My Gf got patches from the doc and tried to stop but I was still smoking, 2 days later I asked her for a patch and decided that day I was stopping. I used the patches for 4 days then stopped using them, I had quit for over 6 months when stress pushed me back onto the cigs. Yes it's simple and easy to stop, you just don't smoke anymore, simple as that. You need to find a day when you feel you can do it, the following days aren't quite as bad as that first day. I shall be quitting again shortly, Just hope I stay off them this time.
