"Break It to Me Gently" is a pop song written by blues musician Joe Seneca with lyrics by Diane Lampert. The song was recorded by Brenda Lee in 1961, and it reached #4 on thet Pop chart in January of 1962. In 2008, the Brenda Lee version of the song was featured at the closing of Season 2, episode 7 of the AMC series Mad Men.

In 1982, the song was remade by country-rocker Juice Newton. Newton recorded "Break It to Me Gently" for her Quiet Lies album, from which the track was released as the second single. The torch song peaked at #11 on the Hot 100 and faired even better on Billboard's Adult Contemporary chart, hitting the #1 spot (making it Newton's third #1 hit on that chart). Additionally, the recording reached #2 on Billboard's Country chart and won Newton a Grammy for "Best Female Vocalist - Country".
