..I just cut the power; I didn't know Vista was designed to shut down. It does slowly ask my permission to shut down even though i just told it to shut down- y'know, just in case it was my pesky little brother messing with my computer again..

Just go to start-->Run--> and type: shutdown -s -t 1 (which t -1) is for 1 second to shutdown your computer. It also can be used in Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista.

for desktop, press window+u+u

If you want to shutdown your computer by just clicking a file: Follow the step here: Use notepad as text editor and type: cd press Enter, and type: shutdown -s -t 10 -c "Goodbye my Darling"
Then save you file with .bat extension on your desktop.. Try to click on the file!
