He didn't invent this style af playing. An artist now deceased by the name of Michael Hedges was a master at this as well as a few other styles of play.
Anyone interested should check out these albums.

the technique is not original. Like I said, the man is mind-blowingly skilled, but its just airtap and hammering done very well. Im pretty sure "drifting" is the name to that instrumental, not the technique. Good stuff though. Quite a talent.

This is just wonderful. I'm sure there are many guitarists out there that can play this style, but this song and the execution is just absolutely awesome. Wonderful stuff man. I'd buy a CD in a heartbeat.

it sounds like two people are playing. reminds me of the Tibetan and Buddhist Monks who use multiphonic techniques in there chanting (two notes from one voice). great example of honing a craft.

He is just playing this like a keyboard. the guitar is just a piano choped up into six different keyboards. I bet this guy can really rip the ivories too.
