This was edited with Sony Vegas but the concept behind it is true for any video editing software.

  • Not a Fake but thanks

This is not a fake, it was not on a string it was on a post that was wrapped in green material that matched the background. This is a tutorial on how to do the green screen effect, not a tutorial on the proper lighting of a green screen shot. Perhaps we can make that our next tutorial. Follow the steps with your own material and I GUARANTEE that it will work.

Okay, I'm looking to buy Sony Vegas, and I see 4 versions of the program; standard, platinum, pro pack, and pro. Which verson are you using? I'd rather not buy one and find out that this effect only works in another. I also heard something about Sony Vegas 8 as the latest version, and this is getting me very confused.

  • can't do it?

I downloaded the trial for sony vegas and the layout thing is different, and I can't find the Video FX tab, all it has at the bottom is "backgrounds, explorer, themes, buttons, timeline, playlists, compilation, DVD scripts"

so where do you find the video FX tab?

it also won't allow me to put a still picture right below the video

  • Green Background

is it better to have a green wall than a green sheets ? would the wrinkle in the sheet show up during editing?

  • Not as easy as it seems

I have attempted this with a green screen of a model in a studio but I found that the lighting on the green screen was insufficient, or insufficiently even, to allow the removal of the background.

The studio was pretty well lit. The camera was only a small hand-held. Had I been using a larger 3CCD camera with better low light properties then I think that I may have been able to obtain a more even result.

I wonder if adding two Chroma Key filters is ever a good move? Or whether that software which is JUST for Chroma Keying is the way to go.

    • Lighting is key

When shooting chroma key or green screen stuff you need to make sure that you light the screen and the subject independently. light the screen and place the object about 3 feet in front of the lights and relight your subject from the left and the right to create that "round" feel. Keeping one of the lights a bit farther back. Should be ok then. This was shot with a sub $300 camera.

  • Sony Vegas

Vegas is a video production program like Pinnacle or ULead Video Studio. The concept will be the same in all of them, however the interfacec is different. I use Pinnacle as well so I can put the same tutorial up using that in the next couple days.

    • Sony Vegas

Sony Vegas starts at about 100 dollars for the cheapest "Movie Studio" version, which for most home video purposes will do fine and includes the nifty "show me how" tutorials not included in the pro version. I never usually use toturials but the show me how thing is great.
