This plane coming in on Expressway Visual 31 was instructed to execute an S-turn due to departing traffic, and he came in very off-center. One of my wildest clips, for a second I didn't think he was going to make it.

      I fly these babies regularly. This is what is called a combined down shear and CAT caused by adverse turbulence due to low level QNH factors. You compensate by thrusting reverse in 45 degree flap formation. Easy if you are experienced. HOWEVER in this case I know that the pilot was being bj`d by the chief stewardess so he almost lost it.   • I believe he pulled a slip

    I have my private pilots license, and he pulls a maneuver called a slip, which means your basically turning the plane partially sideways.. its used for two different situations, either a strong crosswind, or because your too high and need to drop altitude fast(creates lots more drag from the fuselage).. Which i believe is what he was doing.. He was coming in too high, and pulls a slip to drop altitude to make the landing.

    This guy made a great landing in tough circumstances. He's landing in a very strong cross wind. To get an idea of how strong, look at how he drifts to the right as he approaches the runway. Watch the smoke from his tires blow off to the right.
