    I feel it is a great idea! We need to protect our children today. One thing we should also work on is keeping a bill in place that keeps sex oofenders 1000 feet from our Schools and Day Care Centers, but only the one's that fit the criteria. These are the one's that target are children. Some States say that we go against the rights of the offender when we keep them 1000 feet away from a School or a Day Care, but what about the rights of the child that they violated or the next child they can do the same thing to.

    Especially if you have young kids. You look up you address, and find there are a few around. Good info to have, because, now if you see that person around your child, you can stop something from happening. IT is unfortunate for the offenders who may, and i say may have be wrongfully accused. Or for the young 19 year old boy getting caught "making out" out with his 17 year old girl friend. And there are some of those cases where that 19 year old was put on the list. Kind of a Catch 22 really, but it is really needed to protect people from the truly sick individuals that are on the list. Because you never know when one of them might have a relapse and want to do it again.

    Not just for kids....everyone gets so wound up about SEX OFFENSES AGAINST CHILDREN.... don't forget yourself, wives, sisters, mothers, and also the MEN in your lives. I work for a Sheriff's office. A man called in about notices we handed out in his neighborhood about a new sex offender..."I will have to watch my kids every second!! Can we make him move? The man had raped a 26 year old woman...and they usually stick to their MOs. He needed to be more worried about his wife than children!! Thanks for your link!! It is great!!

      they have offended, been convicted, "done their time" and are now back in the community. We just need to pay attention and make sure we don't flaunt our kids or ourselves around them so they are tempted to offend against us when or if they "re-offend". Statistics show they probably will, that is why they are made to register....

    ...and i don't know why anyone's complaining. U.S. law requires that these violators be listed publicly, and this site is an excellent tool. Sure, some kids probably don't need to be listed on there - but nonetheless, they knew the law. But there are monsters on here that I definitely want to know about... and when I have kids I'll be checkin up on these lists all the time.

    Ok.. what about people who do other crimes? What about the ones wrongfully accused? I think this is a dangerous tool. There is a lady where I lived who got the address wrong of someone she thought was a sex offender. Put up harassing signs.. Told everyone in the neighborhood he was an offender.. etc etc.. Turns out it was the guy. So you might was to think before you group everyone into one pile and say "kill them all"

      there are no punishments severe enough for people who commit crimes against children. Imagine the one person in the world you idolize the most... favorite musician, actor, sports hero, or perhaps your pastor /priest/ cleric, the best friend you've had since you were in kindergarten, brother, sister, whatever. Your "greatest person in the world"... imagine they walked up to you and open hand slapped you in the face and walked away... the insult, the shame, the disillusionment, and the simple pain and shame of it... this is what children feel when an adult betrays them. we don't really think about it or remember it, but when we were children, all of us, adults held some degree of "greaterness" to them. an adult is above the social system of a child's world. an adult is an almost deity-like entity to a child. for one of these "deity-like" adults to betray a child and hurt them causes a lot more damage than the simple trauma of the event. an 8 year old being raped by another 8 year old would be forgotten and overcome by the victem in short order, children are always cruel to each other and are resilient enough to get over the cruelty of other children. you simply outgrow it. but an 8-year old raped by an adult is not a R**e , it's a betrayal, and it destroys the "deity-like" status of adults. in the terms of social order, the child loses his/her child status. they join the adult social structure long before they should, and the change is irreversible and unhealable. a raped child loses way more than a raped adult. they lose innocence, they lose faith, they lose emotional security, they lose all the essential elements of being a child. in short, they lose their childhood, and you can't get that back and it never heals. and it isn't just R**e , any abuse will do this, physical and emotional abuse does the same damage as sexual abuse. those who commit crimes against children should not be given the mercy of being shot.. they should have their own island in BFE nowhere that's populated with the slimiest, nastiest, and most irritating flora and fauna this world has to offer, and left there to be miserable for life, because that's what they give the children they victimize.

      all sex offenders? perhaps not, there are valid points for and against it..

      sex offenses against children? hell yeah, they should all have a sign on their front lawn identifying them as so, and a bullseye tattooed on the back of their head

      all crimes? well.. yes actually... if a person has to register for sexual harrassment against another adult, then everyone should have to register all of their crimes. you say sex offenders should be registered so that you can protect yourself? what about DUI's then??? why is there no DUI registry when DUI drivers kill tons of people? speeders cause fatal accidents... why not a speeding ticket registry? if you jaywalk, someone might swerve to avoid hitting you and crash and die... so we need a jaywalker registry...

      hate crime registry? make a wolf whistle at the wrong girl at work and you get listed on the perv map, but burn a cross on your neighbors lawn or even lynch him in his back yard and then move to seattle and everything is A-OK... what kind of message is that??? yeah... i think that's an all-or-nothing sorta deal there. what if i'm a single man with no kids... my neighbor being a pedophile doesn't put me at any great risk, but if i live next to a car thief and i'm thinkin about buying a new ferrari... (please don't misunderstand that comment, my wife and I are both overprotective of our children, and they are not allowed in any house we have not been in ourselves, and we don't leave them alone with anybody. the first time our eldest daughter ever went anywhere without one of us with her was when she went to preschool.. that was a fun day)

      I do not mean to belittle the pain suffered by any of the victims in these cases, but the principle and the premise of this registry is badly flawed. it should be all or nothing. for my part i really don't care which honestly, my crimes are speeding and not wearing my seatbelt, and to make that public knowledge wouldn't affect me in the slightest. I speed, i pay the fine, and i speed again. if i thought speeding was bad enough that i wouldn't want it posted on the internet, then i wouldn't speed...

      if you can't do the time and have the **** on public display, then don't do the crime...

      maybe an all-crime internet registry would clear up some of the prison crowds and our tax dollars could stop being spent on inmates' room, board, weight rooms, and cable TV...

      When I worked with sex offenders, one of my guys bragged about how he would get his 8 year old daughter to bring her friends home to spend the night so he could "enjoy himself" with her....not all parents are overprotective. Some just like them out of the house...

      Makes you feel like puking...huh? Me too, that's why I work with cops now....I invite them over to clean their firearms...even the automatic ones....!! :)

    Here's the problem: It's easy to make an accusation and hard to defend because it is impossible to prove a negative. Look how many alleged rapists have been released from prison since the advent of DNA! The figures are staggering. These men were accused, tried and convicted of R**es they had nothing to do with. One man was released after 19 year in prison! Think that was fair? Here's an actual case in Colorado. One man was working at home. His daughter and her little friend were outside playing on the monkey bars. The friend fell and banged her V****a on a lower bar. She screamed and he ran out to see what the problem was. She was screaming "My pee-pee, my pee-pee." He scooped her up ran into the house and put her on the couch. He lifted her skirt and pulled her panties down to see if she was bleeding or damaged in some way. After checking, he called her parents and asked if they wanted him to take her to the hospital. They said no, they'd come get her.... 11 years later, she's in school and her meddling old bat of a teacher asks the class to write a paper on something that happened in their past they felt was inappropriate, that made them feel uncomfortable. If a teacher asked me that, I'd have to make something up of get an "F" because nothing inappropriate happened to me. So the kids wrack their brains and this little girl remembers this incident and writes about it. The teacher doesn't go to the principal, she goes directly to the police. The man is arrested, jailed, arraigned, etc. eventually his wife, begs him to take a plea because he is being prosecuted by an evil 400lb. Deputy DA who was molested as a child and hates all men. This poor man is now a registered sex offender. Is this justice? Do you realize that the US system is so flawed that there are more US citizens in prison per 100,000 than anywhere on earth, including Russia? Are Americans just bad people, or is the system just wacked? Think before you rave. Anyone on here can be accused of sexual abuse and if there is no DNA, you will probably be convicted.

    the spectrum of megans law is pretty terrible, most of these people were just convicted of sexual harassment, in other words saying something not pc enough, pretty far away being child molesters or rapists. But theyre put in this program, marred for life, no chance of redeming themselves so that they have nothing left but this self fufilling prophecy. Besides our criminal justice system is a glorified lottery, half these people should probably be canonized for putting up with our disabled goverment. google can go F**k themselves

      out of the 20-30 random offenders I checked out, none were listed in this registry for "sexual harassment." on the contrary, around 9/10 of them were listed for lewd or lascivious acts with a child under 14. i'm not about to feel oh-so-sorry for these poor victims of the American judicial system that were "marred for life." That's called justice - you screw a 10 year old, and a jury of your peers is gonna screw you. Any real "marring" should be spoken of in reference to these kids. And "self fulfilling prophecy?"
      And self-fulfilling prophecy? still no clue what you're talkin about, so I'll just assume you were really tired when you wrote that and we can skip over it.
      And as far as google goes... this isn't a google product. It's a third-party organization that's using a google maps API - open to anyone and everyone for nearly any purpose.
