And he proved it by dying. I have done some climbing and there is nothing more stupid than soloing. It should be forbidden and severely punished. Indeed ou have very little people on the planet able/willing to solo, Monolete, a spanish guy from the 80s USED to be the best, he was really Spiderman. Dan has huge handles, he knows the cliff which is nowhere above 90% divergence. Check Manolete, hanging from one finger in the gran canon to rest hes other arm, o yeah by the way, he would , go on divergent cliff "on sight" that means, unlike Dan, who knows the paths very well (that's why he leaps, and its a two handles landing, not very diffucult just very crazy) soloing on vertical to horizontal. He was the best, really, the stupidest too, wee all know that what it takes is one single mistake, or not even that, a handles that gives way does it. Bottom line this is mildly impressive as a stunt itself, the difficulty must be maximum 5c for the all cliff, what is impressive is the stupidity of soloers, that dont get it that its not 100% up to you if you fall or not, so no matter how good you are, no matter how good you know your paths, NEVER, EVER, climb even for a couple of metres without a rope. Before you know it there is no way back, both psychologically and physically, u get used to it, and think that u can beat it, nobody beats attraction a apart from birds. Even if your are soo good that there is 99.9 percent of chances that you wont fall, in the long run eventually that 0.1 percent will kick in and there is no insert coin for another game.

Poeple can climb the way they wantg, but I wont let anybody say that it is save, I don't know anyone on earth that has the level to clomb without a rope, there is no such a thing than, I don't wear a parachute because I am an experiences skydiver, it's stupis and the result is death, all the times, so how do you wnat me to agree!! Then if people want to commit suicide it's their right, but not to advertide it like sports. SOME DUMB ASS WILL TRY AND DIE, thats what I am saying!!!

Why? Who are you, or anyone to make that decision for me or anyone else? Who decides the legally permissible risks I can take with my own life? This quote by Benjamin Franklin kinda sums it up for me, "Those who would give up freedom for safety and security deserve neither."

If you think soloing is stupid - don't do it. If someone else wants to they are either good enough or they are not. If they are - you are not fit to judge them or they are not and let them remove themselves from the gene pool.

So, sure.. i would like to see a solo artists slow motion fall with cameras at the base recording the impact at a thousand shots per second speed... and in full dolby surround sound - making sure we muzzle all the screaming people below with only the soft wisper of wind breaking the fall and the sound of crunching bones and soft fleshing smacking the rock below!

the thing about soloing is that the people doing it know the risks. i run a .1% chance of tripping on a crack in the sidewalk and breaking my neck, should the government step in make all sidewalks rubber and mandate that special pads must be worn at all times? f-no. seatbelts save lives, yep. i do not contest that. but once you are aware that they are there for your safety, as a conscious person you should be able to make the choice on your own. the government needs limitations on what they can enforce. why isnt bungee jumping or sky diving illegal? at least a few people die from that every year and it is by definition extreme and dangerous. yet we can do it. it sounds like a slippery slope argument but if you make something with known risks illegal, then you kind of have to make them all illegal. and since everything, EVERYTHING, has its risks, how can you possibly do that? drinking water can be fatal if you over do it and imbalance your electrolytes...should we start monitoring that for everyone? not to quote you but, "the bottom line" is freedom comes with responsibility, and the government does not need to enforce that responsibilty all circumstances, life does it for us. if someone dies doing something they love to do, they knew the risks and thus take responsibility for it themselves.

Laws are put in place to protect people from others. This man, or any soloist, is hurting nobody... he's pushing the limits because he obviously likes the feeling, and that feeling wouldnt exist if there wasn't a risk. Dont tell me you want to protect him from himself, its a patronizing attitude towards a full grown man. You make laws against peoples personal freedoms and one thing will happen... more laws will be broken :). you may know alot about climbing and saftey, but when it comes down to it, these people know that there is always the chance for them to fall and die. they are prepared to take this risk, just so that they feel the thrill.
which would you prefer; a long life which you dont live to the max, and never do incredible things because of the risk, or, a short life in which you spend everyday feeling the adrenalin rush through your body, while you hang of the side of cliffs.
in my opinion, if you arent living on the edge, you are taking up too much space!

Yes the thrill, thats why extreme sports exist, and one of the features of it are the security measures that allow you to have the thrill again, if not then let's just call it russian climbing, agin being exceptional at climbing doesn't keep you for falling eventually one day or the other, definitite, this guy killed himself on another climb. My point is the xample it gives. If you dont have the level after 5 to 10 metres ur dead meat. Now a lot of cynical souls here seem to agree that people are free to commit suicide, and make it look like fun so more jackasses do the

what was probably done was he went ahead and did it prior with a sub-4 min time, and after the camera crew shot him doin it again and edited it to sub-4 min.

THAT looked completely real to me.absolutely amazing at the speed it was accomplished, but still real,not staged.

All the camera angles from above and below suggests multiple cameramen, yet non can be seen on the cliffface waiting to film their bit, also no ropes for any cameramen. not once does the footage capture any other cameras in the background. Also why does the guy appear to be having to keep his body away from the rock face, its like the gravity is pulling the wrong way. On some of the clips tilt your head to the right and ask yourself. Was the camera man also tilting his camera to the right. could be done ona flat rock. some of it is real..but some parts are a little sus to me..maybe im wrong i dont know. Just sus to me

I know the rock face he climbed and I know that it's real (i guess it's possible that some of the shots aren't though...)
but the climb although it's long is only rated 5.7 and an amazing climber like him woulda had no problem climbing it

What do you think about my thoughts on the missing camermen. If it had been filmed in one take they would of appeared on each others footage at least once...but they don't...thats puzzling me. Any thoughts?

it's possible that it was filmed in more than one go, or by some other means. The guy is resonably famous among climbers so he could probably get a lot different people to film it. Also, because the cliff is so big, if someone is filming from the top of the cliff, you wouldn't be able to see a filmer at the bottom. It would appear that they have a filmer in a helicopter, and that would make him really mobile and able to follow him up the whole cliff. In that case you'd only really need one or two people to do all the filming (if they were both in the helicopter). They're only filming the guy climbing (except for that one part where the zoom out to show how high he is), so they wouldn't really be showing where other filmers would be.

It's also very possible that they had a bunch of filmers, and justed edited out the parts where you can see other filmers. It says it took him 4min to climb it, but the movie'sa lot less.
