What do Steve Young, Earvin (Magic) Johnson, Drew Bledsoe, David Robinson and Ronnie Lott have in common? They're all professional athletes turned private equity investors. In The Deal's video conversation, former NFL quarterback Young talks about the "entrepreneurial spirit of football," the pressure of following in the footsteps of four-time Super Bowl winner Joe Montana and why quarterbacks make good PE investors. Young's football prowess is legendary. He was named the most valuable player of Super Bowl XXIX in 1995, when he led the San Francisco 49ers to victory. These days, Young is the managing director of Huntsman Gay Global Capital LLC, a Palo Alto, Calif., private equity firm that closed a $1.1 billion private equity fund earlier this year. Far from the stereotypical dumb jock, Young earned a law degree, previously co-founded a PE firm called Sorenson Capital and founded a charity for children called the Forever Young Foundation. Oh, and he's also a talented public speaker, as those of us who attended The Deal Economy 2010 conference in New York last week witnessed. Click here for more on Young's remarks there. Subscribers to The Deal Pipeline may read more about Huntsman Gay here. Watch the video below or download it on iTunes. - Mary Kathleen Flynn
