Look! I was wounded in Afghanistan recently. I lost my right leg! Yeah, holy S**t , huh? Well, I don't regret a damn thing Ive done in my life. Including the decision to volunteer the 6 years 6 months and 18 days in it. I was wounded twice in the same week. I took minor shrapnel just four days before losing my leg, just around the same area. I don't consider any of us heroes; In fact it makes me uncomfortable when people refer to me as one. I'm an Infantryman who was doing Operations with a Special Forces Group. I felt honored to work with them, but I also knew that meant I would be working in a much more dangerous area and further away from the rest of the Army. The village had a 95% Taliban population. So the 5% who were not Taliban, were Taliban friendly. Anyway, The actual mission was on Oct. 10th, the first time in history that the Afghan people had the right to vote, and my job with eight others was to discreetly pick up the voting ballots that were finished, and to drop them off 25miles away, where they were to pick them up by helicopter and taken to be counted. So all you who like to complain, and say that we just are over there to kill people, than tell that to my Captain, and two other good Soldiers who didn't survive that day! We were doing that for those poeple have a chance at a much more decent life. When we are there and actually interact with the people, and especially children, you can't help but to care, and wish you could give them a better life. I have a two year old son, and because of my experience, I truely know how much he has to appreciate. We also regularky gave those people medical attention and helped many that would have never had it, if it wasnt for us troops. So while we are over there defending our country from terrorists, we are also trying to help them establish a safer and more pleasant place to live in the long run. We only killed those who tried to kill us. In my mind it was me or them, and yes I was severely wounded, but Thank God I can say that it wasn't me! God Bless you all! and Thank you to those who support us!!
