Or does the woman in the first car just start gunning in about 3 times for no apparent reason. thus ramming into several more objects that she would have not hit if she just braked or idled until the wheels hit. she could have at least just done nothing and let the car settle into one object instead of jetting around like that.

If it is a hill wow that's gotta be a lot of ice because just snow doesn't do that. Also no matter what f*ing brakes you have you can't do a thing in ice like that, and they were probably in town or something when the storm hit and had to get home, so that's why they drove in it. I love how on the news and such they always say, "Oh yeah, it is so scary driving in snow. Especially when you lose control." What a bunch of pussies! In a lot of places you have to drive in it regularly, and it's not a problem. Doing doughnuts is always fun, too!

Its one of the worst feelings you can ever have when you lose control of your automobile...

This is colorado, they know how to drive on snow... this is an excellent example of sheet ice with powder snow on top.. It's pretty much impossible to stop or turn on.. It's what puts cars in the ditch every time.

Why don't people just can't change their tires from summer tires to winter tires?

I live here in Portland, unfortunately we have a huge influx of people from all over the country moving here. In fact, 62% of all people moving out of where they live now are coming to the Portland area. We seldom get snow down here in the Willamette Valley, maybe once every three years or so, so the newbies are totally unaware of what happens here when it snows. The snow almost always gets hard packed immediately by traffic, then it warms up just a little, and then the shit hits the fan, the snow gets a glassy icy, watery coating on it, and even most 4WD vehicles cannot maintain their traction unless they have studded snow tires and/or chains. So, we have the totally unprepared newbies blithely driving out to work thinking that their street tires are sufficient. The problem here is extraordinarily slick conditions coupled with inexperienced drivers.

The answer is winterwheel my friend. We have to change to summer and winter wheel every year, and as long as Americans do not sign the Koyoto agreement, it will snow all over USA every year from now. Lucky for us, we have longer and longer summer. Think about it!

I watched this on the news at home and thought to myself... WTF what an idiot.... then I realized that where this video is taken is on a hill. Part of this drivers issue is they had gravity working against them... the other part against them was they don't know any better than to drive on a hill in these conditions... Funny thing is they always show people like this or some older lady in a bath robe, curlers, cold cream on her face and missing a tooth in the front when they show something from Portland.... Ah well I guess it the same all over the world... reporters always pick the ones that are willing to talk on camera and those tend to be the ones that should never be on camera...
