Instantly convert your VOB (DVD) files to more versatile editable Mpegs! Now you can upload them to Metacafe! No Software.. No Hassle ..No Problem!
Oookay...
I'd love to try this, but what do I do if the names of the files are the name without the '.VOB'?
I can put '.MPG' or something after the name, but something like Vegas will still see it as a VOB.
Instead it will show '*name*.MPG.VOB', which just looks silly. :P
How can I "make it show the extension" if there even is a way to do that?
if you cannot change the name via this message, download WinRAR (free program, Google it). right click on the file, and press add to archive. you will be prompted with many options, and leave it to compress to RAR. it may take a while, but once it is compressed, change the .VOB to .mpeg, and extract the file. youre done.
By hiimnickkk 1234995450 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveHi - Thanks for the great tip. I tried renaming my VOB files to .mpg file extensions and it works -- sort of. The problem I have encountered is that when I play these renamed files on RealPlayer or try to edit a clip on Windows Movie Maker ----- that half way through the file - Every Time - the film suddenly speeds up! It's like I'm Fast Forwarding to the end.
Please tell me what to do to stop this "Speed-up" whenever the files are played.
Thanks for your help!
this is sort of a bullshit tip... it will work occasionally, but that's about it. if you get to work 1 out of 5 times, consider yourself lucky.
overall, pretty hacky... NOT the way to really convert VOBs to a usable format. use mpg streamclip.
Wow, this works like magic, I named my VOB file to "MPEG" file and wala, it works:-)
Thanks!
i seriously never would have thought of that! great find!
By Harris73 1232485462 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI am able to change the file extension ( that was a cute little hidden trick), but I am working in Windows Movie Maker and the file plays but no visual or audio. Should I be working in another program?
By Living Dead Girl 1 1231846157 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI can convert the file, but my home dvd's have multiple scenes and will only convert the first scenes, how do I convert the entire dvd? Also the type of file is vob, renaming the file doesn't work. Help please
By celehti 1230930139 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveHey!! It almost worked... I mean when I try to load the video to Windows Movie Maker I can only hear the audio, I cant actually see the images.
Am I doing somethig wrong?? Help!! Thanks!!
This is not actually converting to MPG. Media Player will already play the VOB's if you tell it to. What you are doing here is simply associating the VOB with Media Player. And Media Player opens them after it figures out there is no associated codec for a VOB file that has been renamed.
By fizzak 1228166046 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveVOB to MPEG convert. This is a great tip. I always suspected that there was a easy way to do this. Thank you very much.

I've learned how to convert dvd to different formats with the converter. I dont use it to convert full movies i only use to convert sports events to later upload somewhere else but im having a problem with the audio staying even on the second vob section. I trim my videos to only 10 minutes per video the requirements for uploading. The audio is fine at first but when i use the second VTS part the audio is not even and no matter what i do the audio is slower or faster than the video??? can someone help how can you speed up or slow down the audio?
By onyxmia 1205963298 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI opened it in Windows Media Player and now I cant hear sound.
By greenpointcity 1198959495 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removeuse nero movie to convert .vob in manual settings DV-Type2 .avi
this is what i do now and have no problem editing them... you do have to convert and it does recode so it takes some time. I am not going to make a tutorial because Metacafe rejected several screencapture tut's I have made because of their "cellphone" viewing... so I will not make anymore technical videos with screencapture... sorry:(
Ok when I convert the video it works- goes from quicktime to media player but when I try to import it into movie maker I get this saying
C:wedding videoVIDEO_TS.mpeg could not be imported. An interface has too many methods to fire events from
Do you know why it is telling me this or any suggestions? I have used a few different programs to convert and none of them are working!! I keep getting this error or a codec error. Any ideas? I would like to stick with this way if I can figure out why it is giving me this message.
Thanks!
Hi, I have exactly the same problem as jdillon. The conversion worked beautifully. (Thank-you so much!) However, when I attempt to open the mpeg in Windows Movie Maker, I get that error "An interface has too many methods to fire events from". I'd greatly appreaciate any suggestions.

By Cool Tips & Tricks 1171231222 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI had a dvd of a ride that me and my daughter did on vacation. So I saw your video and I copied the data and tried to rename it but now I can't view the video at all and all of the files from the disc are on my computer....could you please help me?
By ginaoverman 1181585806 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removehey gina, if you did not first make a copy of the .vob to have as back up then you should only have to change the extension name back to .vob again the icon should change back, i have done this many times and never have lost a file by switching the extension back if there was a problem. Always make a backup copy of ANY file before altering them whether it be a .vob .mpeg .doc .jpeg .txt always back it up first!
