Cool experiment with oil, water and alcohol. You must see! Go to mezon.biz for more!
very cool scientific toy, if you could somehow make a closed plastic container for it.
By D3stiny 1169164972if you freeze it. It would be a really cool sculpture!
By castword 1169163504If you freeze it, i think only the water would freeze.
I don't think that pure alcohol and oil would freeze.
Correct me if I'm wrong though.
Cool video Though. And a great idea to freeze it.
Alcohol freezes, just not at a temperature that we can achieve at home!! -117 degrees celsius. Oil also freezes at somewhere between -6 and -20 depending on the oil.
By boltsoflightening 1169261282alcohol is less dense (notice how dense is correctly spelled) than water. When a solution of the two is made the alcohol, i assume methanol, the alcohol naturally sits on top of the water. Looking at the first clip the oil used here is less dense than water and more dense than the alcohol allowing the oil to sit in the middle of the two.
Simple high school chemistry and frankly a waste of a clip.
Saved me the work of typing that, plus, any half-decent bartender will tell you about specific gravity of liquids.
Thats how you build layered cocktails..
just kidding ,good work man

By mieszalnia_pasz 1204752524crazy music, kinda demented, cool thing too, be a great conversation peice
By Bazil stagg drummond 1199670966Go to any DECENT cocktail bar throughout the world, and you'll find skilled bartenders who know all about specific weights, and thats how they build cocktails in layers...
E.g. Kahlua, Grand Marnier and baileys - B52. You'd have to REALLY blunder if u dont get it in proper layers, like oil in water and alcohol...
Nice effect tho.
Thats So Awesome !!! The Oil Bubble Is So Kool!!! Thumbs Up.
By rimedrider 1170378285Oil and water make me think of men and women. They don't mix very well together, but in the end, one always ends up of the other.

There are people who dont have enough water to drink and youre wasting alcohol. You should be shamed :(
And by the way. Alcohol will freeze eventually...
