    • how to tell which is north...

since the video has a compass at hand... check the magnet (the metal disk he's rubbing the pin with) which side the compass points north. The north end of the compass is charged with negative... so it will be attracted to positive side of the magnet... rub your pin (just the sharp tip of the pin) on that side of the magnet... put it on water then the sharp tip will point north.

    • info

see the water flow of the river etc.. they always flow from north to south.
Look at the the tree the more leaves are on the east and west side.
If you make your own compass " Mark East where the 3 legs of "E" are pointing.

      Thanks.

    • River flows...

Not true! the Nile flows South (African higher ground) to North (Nile Delta) down to the Mediterranian Sea.

    • River flows...

has no bearing from north to south to west or whatever. It flows from higher land no lower land (i.e. downhill) regardless if it goes north or south or whatever.

Just find the north star (find the big dipper, draw an imaginary line from the two stars that form the "cup"of the big dipper, it points to the last (bright) star at the end of the small dipper and thats the north star.

    • Irrelevant South and North to river flow...

Rivers flow from higher to lower elevations till the lowest (sea level). Nile for instance flows from South to North.

  • nice

instead of putting the needle gently in the water for the force of coesion to take place, you can also use a small leaf.
