How long does the battery last does the potato have an infinite charge life or is it just temporary
How long does the potatoe battery last.

How long a potato battery will last depends on a lot of things. First, it will only be "used up" if it’s actually hooked up to a wire. If it’s not hooked up to a wire, it will theoretically last until the potato goes bad. Also, it depends on how much zinc you have, because the zinc gets used up in the reaction that powers the battery. If you’re using a piece of metal that only has a little bit of zinc on it, then it won’t last very long at all. But if you use a big, solid piece of zinc, your battery could go for a really long time! It also depends on the potato - some work better than others. If you want to know exactly how long a specific potato will last, the only way to find out for sure is to do an experiment and try it out.
Actually, if you insert 2 dissimilar metals into opposite ends of any citrus fruit, potatoes, sweet potatoes and many other fruits and vegetables, you will get an electric current. Do they not teach this is school anymore?
cool idea. also you have the same iriver mp3 i got. but the idea of carring the potatoes everywhere... i don't know, maybe the girls would enjoy it. yeah, every single day i carry my mp3 player to school, the girls are asking me for it, can you lend me your "ipod"? you know
Do you know anything about electricity?

Nice trick. You are trying to prove how galvanic cell works.
This is good but i supose you didn't go to school at the phisics
class. One of the basic condition in order a current to flow is that
the circuit must be "not open" (close).Your circuit is open because
there isn't any link between potatoes so the current can't flow.
Another mistake is that you must use different kind of metals.
Zinc is ok but the other electrode must be something else (you can
use copper). Appreciate your effort but your circuit is imposible to
work. Don't waste effort to rap ten times, is useless.(good answer for AborigenDM)
Sorry, didn't work... I did exactly as in the video and it didnt work. First of all, I think the two ends should be in the same potato. Second, one end should be a galvanized nail and the other a copper wire or a penny. Third, a lot of potatoes have to be combined to get enough power for a MP3! I think this way it might work!
I did it with normal potatoes (is there a difference?) and everything I got was miserable 0,03V between the two wires. Putting in the copper wire in one potato and de galvanized nail in the other, I got 0,56V, still not enough to power a LED... Now I need to buy wweet potatoes, but I don't think it will work with them either.
I dare you to carry that around with you!

I could use pennies instead of potatoes according to you? Oh and is there a catalyst that would make the zinc last longer?
speed up reactions, so it wouldnt make it last longer lol
Good Point!. I would bow down to anyone that would carry around two potatoes in their pocket.
do it if i didnt have a AAA
video done by kipkay!
I wonder where does he find stuff like that...
He'll just hide them in his pants xD
What will the women think though?
i have those speakers
and use that to carry the potatoes around. One on each side. Then, if I'm ever hungry...
You guys are dumb, don't you know batteries are made out from potatoes?
Are you really smart, Mr. Duc Nguyen?
ducnyguyen nice comment
how long does that charge last?
You're absolutely brilliant, I enjoy almost every one of you're videos. Keep up the good work!
l0l i agree.
I thought that potato clocks and other powered things were common knowledge, didnt know it was so uncommon to know.
comment was halarious. the one about him eating them... u deserve 5 stars
i love your vids but all that power is saved power. Sorry!!
Who needs batterys that you need to throw away! You can put 1 in each pocket and eat them when your done!
Which is Positive? How many volts are these and what what are the mAH?
how long do the spuds last before the power runs out?
...
thats pretty cool but not very portable!

i did it , incredible
Just stick the ear phones directly into the potatoes. They play their own music.

Man your beter than an encyclopedia !!!
But keep this away from Iranian goverment or they might make a nuclear bomb out of it!
Now Mr Potato Head can have a mp3 player!
With all his favorite hits! (potato hits that is) :0(
this was exacly my science fair project a few months ago, just i tried to power a christmas tree. Thats a lot of potatoes.
That would be sweet
zzzzzzzzzzzz...
how long that live ... and are they rechargeable
Light your House with 1293817239817 Potatoes !

Raymond? I thought you were doing re-runs... not potato science...
but are the potatoes rechargebal also. and after we use the potatoes for the mp3, can we eat it after. or it's not tasty any more:P,
Seriously, Kipkay talks like raymond in everybody loves raymond. Soon I will post a video that will overcome kipkay's metacafe fortune.
show me some method to run a pc
you are making a lot of money with your videos, keep up the good work!!
How long ??1 hour??or just some minutes?
I use an onion to power my laptop & a watermelon to turn the T.v on. I need to do more grocery in case of a possible blackout.
it's great kip! kids today need to learn more science! Keep up the good work! 5 stars!
what is a galvinized nail?

Nobody believe me when I told them that I did read "How to make the power for radio from sweet potato" from my father's note-book...long time ago!
kipkay!! you should have hooked a voltage meter to it!!
you can use lemons... penny and a nail. plus with lemons you can connect them like batteries. nail to penny... nail to penny..
Not so goood maybe It's an lodye when he didnt have editing software?
kipkay....ur a legend
but i just got one question
do u always speak like that?
cause its really kick ass
thanks :P
how could it work without any salt bridge?
Lol, you are awesome.
Ok now next time mp3 is out of batteries ill look for potatoes...
all i can say is that potatoes are much cheaper than batteries...im not buying batteries again!

that's cool, energy from a potato, LOL!
You could make lots of money. Just sell potatoes as batteries.
Holy crap, those things powered the mp3 player AND the speakers? Very impressive!
Nice vid ! Hey those "galvanised nails" are made out of zinc I suppose , no ?
And btw how much money have you earnt so far ??:-O
my friend did a video similar to this in the fact that the video is so bad it's actually funny
http://www.metacafe.com/watch/622951/do_you_want_to_get_yourself_hurt/
the funyny thing is that it's actually so bad it's funny
the batteries is under potatoes
Use that on my Mobile Phone?
