How To: Lightsaber Effect Video Tutorial

thank you very much.. i learnt to do it with this tutorial. (also your video for photoshop ;) ) at first after i exported, always the black solid were coming front of my movie, and i could see only my mask, and black solid. no movie :-s ... later i tried to take out the black solid. and it solved my problem :D now i can see my video.. BUT

but only one question....!
what is the black solid for? :S

for the record, you can find lightsaber sound effects in the form of a soundfont on th web. for reference on which sound to use when, just watch the movies.

Good tutorial, we need more like these. I used it and some other tutorials to create lightsaber, fireball, lightning, shooting and some other effects. Check it out comment on my first try using these.

It doesn't want to change color on color balance, why?

Hey man, great video, but my trial account with Adobe After Effects has expired, and I need a keycode to continue. How do I continue to make lightsaber movies after AE isnt any use, is there another program that will do a similar thing, or can i download it again from the site to get another 30 days...? Can anyone please get back to me?

ok, so i've tried your tutorial, and many others, and in after effects, the video looks fine, but when i export it, its completly mested up. then lightsaber is way slower than the actual footage, do you know why this is?

When I rotoscope, after I get about 10 frames deep and check back to the beginning, the first masks are off either left and right or top and bottom, they arent sticking to where I put them. Any idea why?

Great tutorial...I have question...I have done everything in the video but I cant seen to let my saber change colors.....i have followed all your instructions....i must add that I am using Adobe after effects 7.0 and I have it installed on Windows Vista...thbaks for the tutorial.....also were can I find more good tutorials like that one.....keep posting videos they are good......

Great tutorial, I did what you said and am almost finished but have hit a brick wall. Somewhere along the way I accidentally must have changed the composition white layer size. Now if I change the composition size to fit comp all the hard work I have done with the mask will be severly messed up (light sabers in incorrect places). What can I do? I can't start again.

go to www.fxhome.com they have this program called vision lab or effects lab. I tried the demo and let me tell you it is cool. You can make any movie you want even a starwars movie.But it's a demo so you can't really try it but you can buy the vision lab for $499 or you can by the effects lab for $139.

i think iv followed the tutorial like u said, made the 2 solid layers, made the mask in the white layer, which is now in my footage which is good. selected the stop watch symbol like u said, went to next frame, adjusted my masks position, went to next frame etc. but when i tried to play my footage the mask stayed static in same position, didnt move. any idea what im missing?
