The God Delusion?

first of all. text written by men thousands of years ago is not proof of anything other then a story. And, a story about a story doesnt make it truth.

Second. If you can provide me with conclusive evidence that shows that god does exist, i will believe. Now, let me define that. I want audio and video evidence from multiple sources of god telling us what to do. different angles for video. Then we will need this again at the same time but at a different location and god needs to appear as the same figure at both locations.

Do this and I will believe.

I have been going around all this time thinking that I am an Athiest, and there by did NOT believe in ANY god. Thanks to this man I now know that I have been wrong. Thank you sir for clarifing what I believe. Thank you for knowing me better than I know myself.

Intelligent, enquiring people certainly do not believe in the God of the Hebrew prophets (and, as the Hebrews themselves are still waiting for the Messiah, isn't the jury still out?) who encouraged slavery, genocide, and capital punishment for minor crimes and who didn't know the Heavens were created before the Earth!

What an idiot. There are no primary sources for Jesus. The bible was written decades to centuries after Jesus passed by people who never met him. It's pretty easy to make the book fullfill itself when you're writing fiction.

Are humans more than material objects? Yet if they have no eternal souls, no afterlife and no unique value apart from other life forms, then what ARE humans but a particular collection of atoms?

Prophecies are nothing more than someone's vague statements of an event that can be determined only after the fact and they almost always require moving words in many positions and interpreting them in a dozen different language to garner supposed truth. For that matter, the prophecies were probably regarding Horus.

1. a moral standard requires a transcendent authority
2. human value requires a transcendent declaration
3. human creativity requires human intelligence; therefore non-human creativity requires non-human intelligence

Example: It would be just as valid to work for the extermination of humans as an infestation of the earth and this as a moral obligation. If for this noble cause one dies, he is being altruistically sacrifical!!

I have to agree with hobgoblin i dont believe in any kind of god or power in the universe.
And i can't believe someone who states he is going to show evidence of god just quotes some writings from ancient times that could have been about anything for all we know, it's all in how we read it.
