Carter Beauford's Drum set
Carter plays on a Black Birchwood Yamaha Recording Custom. He has Zildian cymbals, including a custom K 14 inch high hat, remo heads, and promark 5AB signature sticks.

Carter's style
Left-handed drummer playing on a right-handed drum set, causing him to lead on the hi-hat with his left (strong) hand. This "open hand" style gives him greater mobility moving around the drums.
Carter loves to play with dual hi-hat-ride patterns or hi-hat-hi-hat patterns.
When Carter plays the hi-hat or ride with just one hand, he uses his other hand to play "ghost notes", supplementary snare drum hits that are too quiet to hear, but that provide a fuller sound.

    Carter is a brilliant drummer. The reason why he uses his left hand for the hi-hat is because when he was growing up he saw drummers on the tv and mirrored it, hence getting the hands the wrong way round. hasn't affected his play style at all, simply brilliant and a very modest guy.

      Carter is a good drummer with amazing solos. This is just a video of him playing to guitars. Zeph, how are you amazed by that? You must S**k if you were awed by a drumbeat. I'm a drummer too and that video was nothing special. Millions of drummers can play that and the video insults Carter because he is 10 times better than that

    Dave matthews is cool but sometimes his stuff sounds a bit like noise to me. Overly blended with too "much" or somthning.
    This video however did justice to the drumming
