I even heard the nails touch when you shoved one into the concealing pile of salt

Magnet activates the reed switch which in turn is disguising the hidden contacts in the salt piles (thin wires) not seen on the camera.

I had coarse salt, old copper wire that was oxidized a little bit on the outside and a slightly smaller magnet. Is this enough or is there a specific way to do this. I am trying to teach a science class for kids and would love to show them this and get their brains going.
