How good do you think your spatial awareness is? Try this little brain teaser, I will be extremely surprised if anyone gets close without undertaking any calculations. Feel free to comment, particularly if I've got my sums wrong!

  • I got close

To find the difference in radius, I just divided 6 metres (what we already know is the difference between the two circumferences) by pi, which is of course approx. 2, I forgot to divide that answere by two to get the difference in radius, but I did find difference in diameter. Good problem.

    • If you missed the explanation

Here's the explanation again if you missed it or it's a bit of an eye strain:

You should know that the formula to work out the circumference of a circle is: 2 * pi * radius

Therefore to work out the radius we can divide the circumference by 2*pi.

In the original we had a circumference of approx
      40,000,000 metres - 40,000km - so the radius is 40,000,000 / 2*pi = 6366197.724 metres

When we added 6 metres we then had a circumference of 40,000,006 metres - so the radius is 40,000,006 / 2*pi = 6366198.679 metres

      6366198.679 - 6366197.724 ~= 0.95 Metres
