      Just like big volcanic eruptions, nuke explosions cause global cooling. A big nuke war would be followed by an artificial ice age, commonly called a nuclear winter.

      I don' t think any type of cooling can cause this planet to stop overheating unless pollution ends and the atmosphere has time to heal itself. It is doing that but at a rate that cannot keep up with the rate of pollution.
