  From what I understood he had his synapses messed up (I'm not a physician, so I don't know what it means exactly) but one of the things it does is this: up/down and left/right are reversed in the person's awareness. So that's why he jumped backwards and ran backwards after he was kicked (he had no memory since the kick, so he still 'thinks' he has to head to ball, hence the jump). I believe he died a few minutes later, poor fella.
